I think it's a start, but I have a few other suggestions too that I'm not seeing people make, so I will.
I think the problem with this weapon is that it grabs the best parts of a sniper rifle and best parts of a small handgun and it's performing beyond what it should be... Which is a pistol.
I feel as though CCP wanted to create a "mini-sniper pistol" much like the borderline niche flaylock( a skill shot "mini-mass driver") CCP preferred slowing the rate of fire and keeping the damage over lowering the damage in order to preserve diversity in the game- to make it unlike the other racial pistols that is to say...
Anyways, I have a few suggestions.
- Make the initial charge longer and let the consecutive shots have the same ROF in between.
It's a characteristic of the rail rifle and the magsec. It takes much longer to fire the first shot than the consecutive rounds after it. The bolt pistol may have it's actual ROF balanced, but it's initial charge seems a bit underwhelming. It may need a quick look at it as it helps deter Caldari weapons from being spammed so aggressively.
- Increase the reload time.
From what I remember, I was very surprised to see the bolt pistol had it's reload time reduced. I have yet to get rapid reload V for the bolt pistol to combine it with my caldari assault V. I'd really HATE to suggest this before I get the opportunity to try it because it may get nerfed before I get to witness the awesomeness of it, but...
Would it really be all that outrageous to give this weapon a longer reload time to penalize players for missing their shots with... well... something that is supposed to be a skill shot weapon anyways? It's a heavy pistol, but it reloads incredibly quickly.
It just seems a bit too spammable and spammed, it is.
- Overhaul the recoil
At first, I had trouble using this weapon despite people praising it. I'm the kinda guy who is absolutely determined on keeping the dot on target, even as it moves off the center of the screen because my virtual hands are reloading the gun. However, once I learned that it was an animation, that was it, the illusion was unveiled, it turned out I really was the one and next thing I knew, I was fighting agents in the matrix. The recoil actually helps me now. In fact, I use the "bounce" of the recoil animation to gauge when my next shot is coming up since it seems to land where I last left it. It might need a bit of work to challenge the shooter.
Most of these suggestions are with preserving/enhancing the bolt pistol as a skill shot weapon, but I think this is the one CCP doesn't want.
- CCP'S NUCLEAR OPTION: Take a deep breathe, look within yourself, and just realize it's a pistol
Not just a pistol, but inherently a pistol. Chisel down the range, the damage, bring it in line with the other pistols a bit more. Should it have more range as a caldari pistol? Sure. Should it have the range of an assault rifle? More zoom? Lots of alpha damage? Not too sure about that... It's just a pistol. It's tough, you don't want to homogenize the pistols, I get it, but this may be an idea to keep in mind.
Besides, we can always do the sniper pistol gig with a breach bolt pistol anyways, right?
