Obviously there's already a wide variety of weapons in DUST - preparing for the sidearm challenge has already made me try a whole range of new stuff. But anyway here's a few ideas for even newer stuff...
FLAME THROWER - Could be interesting, give it a short to medium range, vast splash damage mmmmm
CROSSBOW - Medium range, outrageous accuracy, low rof
EXPLOSIVE LONGBOW - Absurd range, massive splash, dreadful rate of fire. Good for countering snipers.
LIGHTSABER - Useless but looks immense?
MIND CONTROL - Scouts could use it, a bit like the force - you can chuck people around the map with pinpoint accuracy but little damage except on landing impact.
DISC GUN- Can't remember what this one was in, Resistance maybe. It fires spinning metal discs that ricochet off hard surfaces causing massive slicing damage and could cause carnage defending a closed off point. Heavy weapon.
REMOTE TURRET - Assaults could set them up. Minimal forcefield - tracks anyone without dampeners. Works till it runs out of ammo. Fantastic for defending a point. Scouts could hack them and turn them against you maybe..
Just some stuff I was daydreaming about... Any other ideas??

The bows wont work, because we already have plasma canon. The rest will become insanely OP when a well coordinated team uses it. |

hey rithu thanks for the reply - yep they all sound OP but of course I'm relying on that famous CCP sense of balance to make each variant a tantalising prospect. the thought of browsing through the different levels of remote turrets is particularly exciting - in an it's-never-gonna-happen kind of way!

The problem with a lot of these is that EVE and Dust are actually fairly hard-science universes... there's not a whole lot that I'm aware of that outright violates laws of physics... and because of that.
Flamethrowers - Dropsuits are extremely durable and designed to be fairly resistant to conventional arms fire (The extremely super-enhanced clone that 'you' are has 10 hp, militia dropsuits average more than 300 hp 30x what you have)... so you have the Gallente who use *superheated plasma fired out of focused apertures* to do 'thermal' damage, or the amarr who use a high frequency laser that does a bit of damage on its own and then ignites the very air to plasma that travels in the same channel the initial laser burst made.
Bows of any variety - No, just no. I don't care what future materials you have there comes a point when the amount potential energy stored by drawing a bow string back fails to be meaningfully converted into kinetic energy upon releasing the string, it is instead 'wasted' by doing things like producing heat or noise. The other downside to bows is that they have very low rates of fire. Now if we want to compare this to say a railgun which takes a fairly heavy solid slug and uses electricity to generate a circuit that wants to expand as big as possible and thus causes said slug to accelerate to 7000m/s in a fraction of a second you've already got a weapon far, far more damaging than a bow and it fires several hundred rounds per minute!
Lightsabers - Do you want to get sued by Lucas arts / Disney? Mind Control - Outright isn't possible within the new eden universe, the only person ever thought to be capable of any 'psychic' ability was actually just exploiting backdoors in implants she had put in people. If you're talking about telekinesis like you described, once again not possible as eve is a *very* hard science universe 'magic' or 'supernatural abilities' do not exist. Disc Guns - If you're envisioning a room filled with bouncing flechettes, you're severely underestimating dropsuit armor.
Remote turrets are possible, but drones are better and they are very very gallente tech.

They can only combine parts of existing weapons to make a new weapon. This would take less time than actually creating a new design. I'm thinking of how easy ccp could make an amarr heavy weapon. Look at scrambler rifle and the HMG. Now combine them to make an amarr heavy weapon.

Great stuff - I suppose I was imagining they could adjust the basic concept of each idea to fit the universe. So a bow would actually be some eve-related tech that made sense. And yeah mind control/telekinesis is maybe a stretch...
Drones yes yes yes fantastic!

Bows will never become completely absolete. The utility of a weapon that has retrievable ammunition, and is relatively silent should never be underestimated.
I'm sure a compound bow made from the more... resiliant... materials found in New Eden would be usable against Dropsuits. Especially one that has been tuned to push the enhanced arm strength that a Dropsuit provides to the limits.
Imagine a bow that can provided an arrow velocity measured in kilometers per second, and impact force measured in megatones per square inch. Now slap an antimatter canister on the end of the arrow. |

Turrets the only thing that looks interesting. A crossbow? This is the future where we have 17km long ships and have weapons that shoot lasers seems a bit stupid. |

I take your point, a bow seems pretty daft - but I was thinking you could take the concept of a bow and new edenify it a little bit. I always feel like the EVE universe has a futurist medieval vibe.
I mean mercs are basically knights in armour with a range of twisted weapons to damage eachother as horribly as possible...
LAV's are the horses and HAV's the catapults.. Now we need CCP's version of a cauldron of boiling oil to chuck over the castle wall...

Shock Rifle Please.
We can replicate it with stuff already ingame. Change the color of the rail rifle. To mimic the secondary Orb shot make the gun chargeable. Regular fire is the bolt shot. Charged fire is the Orb. The Orb is obviously gonna be slow a Forge Ball.
