Hotfix Delta nerfed ADSs a fair bit. In a competitve match (corporate contracts) are they still viable? If you are fielding a PC, are you going to want an ADS? How many? For those of you that play competitively with ADSs, do you play more PCs as an ADS or less? Do you not get used as often because of the nerf? I also want to know what you think about the Python vs Incubus. Thanks in advance. |

No idea about PC but if we assume that PC = hyper version of pub matches,
Its a safe bet that you will spend the entire match flying around trying not to die to AV and the Python should come out on top VS and Incubus in a sky fight. Unless the Incubus pilot is just that sick.
TLDR - Wouldn't bother to be fair.

Yes. In fact more so than Pubs because you have a better idea of enemy movements and locations and they're are usually only 1-2 dedicated AVers as opposed to everyone getting their AV hard-on to kill you.
Fast aerial support for AI and AV plus clearing links plus placing links are always useful as long as the pilot is competent.
I only have PC ready ADSs so I'm almost always in an ADS the whole match. There's almost always have a spot open for me whenever there's a PC.
I haven't experimented too much with the incubus yet, but I'm not too keen on the rail performance. It's definitely not what it used to be, but it can skill down Pythons with some AV help. Tank-wise it's a little better, but slightly slower (get armor comp 5 ASAP, fitting 3-4 for the best fit imo). Python is all-around good and my favorite choice. Both are more or less viable.

It makes it more benficial to have passengers, as they can assist killing the AV Still good for Assaulting objectives or Highground and covering fire on the team
Missiles seem the better option to pick off targets while Rails do not offer the AV capability to equal a Forge or Swarm AV Vs Vehicle targets... so not seeing use yet
- So the ADS has become a more important squad member that must be supported to stay active
The turrets are less effective on their own so the Pilot needs to know when to engage while being careful as 2 AV units can take him down likely before they could kill one..
- Still viable but certainly less crucial in battles where AV is active
- The Turret changes have hurt the AV potential of the ADS
(My MLT moduled TEST Dummy ADS is not enough to comment on Turret use)

In PC the role of ADS is to cancel out rooftop uplinks, you are a HIGH priority target as the highground depends on you not being able to fly.
ADS is preferable to standard dropships due to the front misssle turret being ideal for uplink smashing.
its not exactly a slayer in PC, its more a utility role, destroying and placing high ground uplinks.

Yes. The times ive flown in PC and Pubs since Delta switched the ADS to a more utility role as Ghosts above said. I find myself being more of a team player than all out Slayer, which is good.

It's at this stage in the game that only the absolute best can use them effectively, I've seen a lot of hardcore pilots nowadays give up and start tanking. It's sad, really.
I will say one good thing came out of Delta hotfix, I no longer feel any guilt about using my AB.
But yes, only top tier pilots are still going to be hired at this stage.

(My MLT moduled TEST Dummy ADS is not enough to comment on Turret use) If a squad member is not self sufficent then he has no place in PC. Nobody has time to babysitt a teammate. And thats why the best way to play PC is to use scouts+tanks. using something else seems like a waste of time.

I don't feel the ADS is viable for PC matches anymore nor has it ever really been used to how it really can be. As it stands 1 AV user places even the best pilot to flee mainly because the pilot has such a too low RoF or not enough damage output to use strike tactics in the ADS (Strafe runs). 2 AV users have an extremely high percentage rate to remove an ADS from the sky in rather a fast TTK, compared than before, depending on the map layout and size. I have always experienced that Public matches were much more enjoyable for dropship pilots due to squad/team play with the added unknown happenings of the game. Example would be blueberries not understanding what the team is really doing in relation to them, and the same goes for the opposite team. Most of your bigger corporations that are into PC are much less organized tactics wise, and tend to just move on things as they play. I am not saying this is the wrong way for team interaction to be conducted, if it works for them but being tactical is required much more from any type of dropship pilot as it stands now. More often than none I see squads/teams/corporations really unknown as to what a dropship can do and can not. In fact a dropship is on average the last thing that many squad leaders decide to use for critical decisions that can turn the match into their favor. I would be great to see them used more from a squad/team/corporation level to their fullest potential. I know the pilots who understand what I am talking about really enjoy this type of play, and those who ever been in these type of games where the pilot is being used by their squad lead in this fashion I feel is what really created the dropship boom that we experienced sometime near the end of last year.

For PC matches after Hotfix Delta: How often is there an ADS on your team? How often is there one on the enemy team? From what I've seen, ADSs are still readily used as they are the go-to method of clearing uplinks off of high ground. |

As a very very dedicated ADS pilot i can tell you that ADS in pc is a very specialist scenario choice now.
If the enemy team is absolutely horrible, cannot field AV to save their lives and is focused on dying repeatedly, then yes. If the enemy is spamming equipment on rooftops, then yes.
Cases where a normal DS is better If the enemy is pushing with scouts, and your pilot can see them and call them out to teammates, then yes. If the enemy has poor AV and the DS can move to areas without multiple damage sources then yes.
No you can't ADS if: More than 1 av is present A swarmer is present with strategic high ground positioning. A forge gunner is present on a structure where splash is ineffective (some portions of rings) The enemy has redline tanks...
To sum up effectiveness of ADS in pc:
Use it only as a backup, if you feel no av is present at all, go ahead call one out. Use it if you are getting overwhelmed by low hp scouts in a wide open area point. Use it to drop off ppl and clear uplinks.
Don't use it if any AV is present.

Excellent point. Dropships are still viable, even mandatory. Good luck winning a battle without one, especially if the opposition brings pilots of their own.
