There's a lot more, but these are some primary examples of Snipers making an active difference in matches. Honestly, those who say Snipers don't contribute to battles are highly uneducated, or biased.

Not comparing apples to apples. PC Vs Pub
What you have to take into consideration is that the snipers that make a difference are running in a competent squad that has control of the battle already.
You know you are gonna lose a battle as soon as it starts when you see 5-6 people head for the hill to hide and camp. |

It's similiar to the failscade of a match when there's too many vehicle dudes. More than two snipers and things can get away from you in a skirmish.
I think it's situational.

Let's remember GÇô snipers aren't useless, only players. Which is why I defend sniping. I am not useless because I'm sniping. I am useless because I like drinking and laughing at the game as I am sniping.

Sniping is more viable now than before in my opinion! Before I would have never touched a sniper rifle because you had to hide in the red line?! Now I can do damage in close, and just have it available on a commando! Bringing them from the redline may change their role entirely in future who knows!

I'm a useless sniper. I immediately run to the hills and attempt to solo the entire enemy team with my MLT SR. Sometimes, I even manage to get 5 kills! |

Never once in my dust career did I ever see a sniper make any real difference.
Not once have I seen a sniper turn the tide, save us on the last moment, whatever.
When I go sniping I do it to relax, it's quite amusing to watch a bunch of headless chickens run around, not knowing what is hitting them.

That is totally my point. The video was of Pyrex sniping & thinking that snipers actually made a difference. Just found that kinda funny after his rant today about his poor dropship. |

Snipers can clear or keep clear high ground. An ADS or cloaked scout may do it better, but not if I am the one doing it. If I am sniping though it is usually because we have lost and I decide to try to make them pay at least a little, or because there is no meed to do anything else.

Snipers work because they force you to react, not act. I have been forced to leave an area or been stopped from killing a vehicle many times because some damn sniper. The problem is that they aren't the most effective at this, so not useless but not optimal either.

We had 2 swarms on our team tonight....and won. You should play PC more often. lol
Thor is right. The VAST majority of snipers are completely useless and simply an annoyance for those of us -- on both sides -- that wish to contribute to our team.
The reason you see no snipers in PC is precisely because they contribute virtually nothing to the team's chances to win, and in most circumstances actually act as an anchor as that clone can better be used to take or defend a point and only provides, at best, marginal battlefield intelligence.
And in my year and a half playing this game, the above rule has only been broken by snipers I can count on one hand...and none of which still play the game as far as I know. |

Most Snipers in this game lack the intelligence, skill and common sense to do what these guys do.
Especially having Nod Keras as a sniper on your team for PC. The guy is a Guardian Angel

I would like everyone to remember that when people say snipers are 'never effective,' 'have no influence on a match,' 'are always impeding their own team from winning,' it is almost always for rhetorical effect.
There will always be the 1% of players who can make even the most useless weapon relevant when they aim it down field. This does not mean that the weapon is good or relevant to the game though, which is what these all encompassing statements are meant to imply.
