So, with my 2 i skilled into a brand new role of which i have little experience-Cal Logi. Dropsuit is lvl 4, hives lvl 5, reptool Lvl 4, uplinks & scanner lvl 1.
Ran a couple solo doms last night & had mixed results. While sometimes i could get into the group & support, yeilding nice wp payouts, sometime it was difficult to stay with blues or even get back to them once uplinks were drained. Worst thing i noticed was i was still going kdr positive, not exactly the indicator of a logi doing a logi's job.
So, i want to hear tips & tricks for:
Best fitting options & considerations Equipment use Hive placement Rep tool use, &, if possible Best practices for supporting randoms
Any help appreciated.

Flying solo in pub matches? Find a heavy, use him as a shield.
You sound like you've got a grasp on what to do already, honestly. In pub matches, the droplink and reptool will probably net you the most WP. The new needle changes are going to make picking someone up even more awesome since it repairs shield now too.
When you're running in a group, you might need other things other than droplinks. I usually have my start of match all droplink suit, then my general use suit which is a droplink, needle, reptool, and my "i'm feeling like a bad ass" gal logi with scanner, needle, reptool, nanohive.
The repping nanohives are great when you're in a squad with 2 heavies defending a point. Let them set up where they want near each other, drop your links behind them, then latch on with a 2 person reptool. They can soak up a lot of damage that way.
Going K/D positive isn't a bad thing in a logi suit. I do it often. Usually it's when my heavy does get taken down, I clean up the remaining mess and then pick him up. |

Honestly I think the most important thing to consider when being a logi is if you have scans. Not just you but anyone in the group. I'm talking about good scans, proto scans 28db below only, and as constant as possible. Its sadly now the only way you can move around in the game. If you don't have that cal logis properly tanked are the slowest logis and won't be too successful 'keeping up with blues'. You'll want to use them in bunkers, or near supply depots. Also no needle, and no uplinks (other people should be doing this). Max rep hives and ammo and rep tool. Maybe the allotek, scanner, rep tool if you have to scan. Or put on 2 complex enhancers, 3 complex shields and no scanner. Its really hard to give suggestions on where to place hives because maps vary. That being said I place down ammo hives at every large encounter possible. If I'm feeling threatened i place down rep hives between me and whoever I'm healing, in the middle of staircases, or right behind a corner. remember cal logi are best in bunkers or around tight corners, I never bring mine out on an open world map. My advice would be to also proto a gal logi with proto scanner in order to move around more. Cloaked scouts are such bs that your cal logi will get smoked trying to move from one open location to the next. The cal logi equipment bonus is so legit I just don't see it worth sacrificing one of your 3 slots for a scanner, def. not a needle. After you proto your equipment make 4 cal logi suits that only have rep hive and ammo hives. Each suit put 1 rep hive and 2 ammo hives. If near a supply depot near a letter or large encounter drops hives then switch suit out to drop other hives. Again, proto a gal logi for open maps or have a dedicated scanner in your squad if you plan on being a logi that can move around. |

Why people figure a logi going positive in his KDR is a bad logi? That's stupid

Get to know the ranges of your tools. Also get the feel of how effectively you can rep. If your squadmate is taking fire its best to know when your tool will not be effective enough so its far better to break out your weapon and concentrate your fire.
In terms of actively repping there are basically 2 methods. Run around and hide in corners repping everyone briefly then move on or rep one target as they push up on a point. One favours mobility and the other favours slower, tougher builds. The only real tricky part is keeping a lock while your target moves around cover. Sometimes you have to break a lock if your target, say, rounds a corner too sharply. The alternative is swinging around wide behind and potentially exposing yourself to enemy fire or closing the gap and be more vulnerable to splash damage.
You can't go wrong placing hives on a point (WP earning wise) and rep hives are more effective together. Personally I stick to ammo hives and disperse them around and even hide a few in odd corners. Not good for earning but harder for the enemy to get rid of and in time can pay off.
As to K/D. My fits are always equipment orientated. That said my fits handle themselves pretty well solo too. Independence can't be a bad thing.

Does the cal bonus extend to needles too? I think the description states the bonus is to nanites, but does not distinguish between hives & injectors.
Thanks for the feedback so far (except you Mike), keep it coming. I have stayed away from running scanners since the nerf & they don't fit my bonuses, and drop links was thrown on in a panick when i realized no one on the team was going to maintain theirs (10 links at the beginning, 5 mins in they were all gone). Randomly dropping hives on intuitive rally spots yielded mixed results, mostly expensive way to provide 5 wp to some lucky passerby.
What are best fitting options considering race & 2 equipmemt slots? Rep tool/needle, ammo hive/armor hive, needle/hive?
Hopefully, my corp will be on tonight & i can work with a squad i know, marry a fatty & live happily ever after with my rep tool in thier woo hoo.

I have a heavy alt and so does Gumby. You dont see him run it much anymore but Gumby can still pull a 6k+ pub game with his logibro no sweat. He should be on tonight.

When I used to run the Cal Logi, I would drop an Allotek and a couple Wyrikomi. I'd let the heavies know they had a hub of awesome nearby and I'd play with my MD out.
I think this would be a great playstyle now with an injector.

I just realized you're in Tso's. Hit me up if you see me on. I log in when I get home, but I might not be directly in front of my TV at all times, 2 year old kid and all that. |
