In my opinion it's an error to eliminate splash damage from large rails. Large rails are not a sniper rifle or a forge gun, you don't have the freedom to move it where you want, you can't look upward or downward, you can't swing it around (and i have prof. 4), splash is there to compensate the lack of movement freedom of the rail turret.
I understand that splash is not needed for AV, but is needed to DEFEND yourself from infantry, not all tanks can fit little turrets for anti infantry and keep a decent survivability in term of modules.
Eliminate splash doesn't have a great impact on AI side, but have a great impact on tank survival chances.
If your major concern are tanks and forge camping hackable panel, the problem is not splash, when enemy infantry LET me camp in a spot where i have a direct line of sight on a null cannon i don't need splash.
Teamplay is a good thing, but relying completely on other players for Anti Infantry is stupid, we just can't do that.

Well, you can either drive away or make the fitting sacrifice to gain anti infantry power. Or fit a different Large Turret., since Large Blasters are the closest turret to anti infantry, you shouldn't be using the turret least suited to killing infantry.

Wait, so you're using the most powerful AV turret in the game, then complain when you have difficulty killing people who specialized into killing you?
Giving up their anti infantry capability just so they could even be a threat to you in the first place?
lol

I use what i like and as a tanker i don't have much choice, but i have one question for you: have you ever had problem with rail tank splash? (i mean rail tanker killing a lot of infantry after chromosome) Have you ever had problem with blaster tanks killing infantry?

lol IDK how much you are specialized in tanks, but if you want to compare it on a infantry level, how many times you use a sniper rifle in a cqc ? Never, but you can choose between several weapons, tanks have only 3 kind of turrets, tell me what should a large rail do against infantry? Nothing? I'm not complaining about AVer's, it's already difficult with splash damage to kill infantry, i have a problem with splash removal because without it, you are extremely more vulnerable to every form of infantry attack and you can't defend yourself own your own.
It's like if tomorrow CCP decide to force logi to play only with sniper rifle, you can try to use it in cqc but what will happen?

Similarly, that shotgunner cannot kill infantry at long range, nor can the AR kill vehicles. Those infantry have chosen to use the weapons they like, but that does not mean they should be capable of everything: just like your choice of using what you like (the Large Rail) for all purposes similarly does not warrant being able to do everything well.
Large Railguns have gone through various phases to get to their current state, with only recently (1.6) having them be the quintessential Large Turret, then the were reduced in power and currently sit as the best AV turret, but limited effectiveness against infantry. Their splash means that they are actually still rather effective: as good as a Large Blaster? No, but still a bit too good.
So yes, we have had problems with both Large Blasters and Railguns being too effective against infantry. Just in the last few Hotfixes Large Blasters have had a few tweaks to dispersion and heat build up; I see no reason to not do the same for Large Rails.

Lol, yes you can; just swing the HAV and the turret at the same time. Though this only works on Gunnlogies. You can look downward if you're in a Madrugar, and every turret can aim upwards.
Horizon Limit wrote:I understand that splash is not needed for AV, but is needed to DEFEND yourself from infantry, not all tanks can fit little turrets for anti infantry and keep a decent survivability in term of modules. So basically you want to reliably defend yourself against Infantry with an Anti-Vehicle weapon? If so, then I think it would be just as fair to let Infantry fend of vehicles with a Combat Rifle.

In my opinion large rail are fine as they are now, you have to take in account: charge time, bullet travel time & tank inclination, that little splash aoe is needed to use a rail tank in the battlefield, without it you can just use it to eliminate another tank / dropship and then recall it.

I would actually prefer large rail turrets on HAVs not lose their splash.
No i don't drive HAVs unless I intend to lose tanks in gloriously nubtastic fashion. |
