Anybody in a position to make important and/or risky financial/investment decisions based on reports like this knows the jargon. As the article explains, "sell-in" doesn't mean "sold to a customer who paid money and then went on to use the product". Nobody on Wall Street, for example, would be misled by that article.
What someone on Wall Street may do, however, is look at Bungie's and Activision's track records and the prevalent trends surrounding highly publicized and long-anticipated releases like this and make a snap decision whether to buy, sell or hold.
What i'm saying here, guys, is...
It's not that ******* deep, jesus shithorned christ, visit xnxx and fap to some real ****, stop jerking each other off about the new johnny-come-lately video game on the scene.
I was fortunate enough to play the betademo, yeah I'll buy it for the PvE when I have a chance. I like what I saw of the story. But it's just another linear rollercoaster. It's WoW in space with guns. I'm not going to turn around and buy several DLC a year to see the rest of the story, so once I get to the end of the base retail content, that'll be the end of it - for me and the majority of their playerbase. Especially when each new DLC expansion features higher level caps for those with the expansion and better gear available only to those playing crucible modes which will in turn be only available to those who purchase DLC expansion content.
You wait and see.

Rookie mistake investing in the video game industry...much too fickle for a good enough R/R, esp. considering the trends aren't being all created by one or two companies...theres just much too much new competition always coming in for it to be a good way to invest money.
"Minmitar Scout" and "Masochist" are synonyms.

yeah i saw that the other day. they tried to pull a cod and tout all the games shipped to stores rather than sold in stores. however, here is the problem, once it was in stores, the game was selling just like cod. ghosts made its money back and then some, destiny will do the same. your thread is just as misleading as bungie saying it made 500 million in one day.
you act like the game is a financial failure. it's not. while i may not be a real huge fan of the game, i admit facts are facts, the game is selling real well in its first week out and bungie is going to make a profit. you really need to quit acting like a fanboy and reveling over supposed bad news of some other game. it is unbecoming. the same can be said of destiny fanboys reveling in dust's historically low player base. |

Doesn't change day 1 sales though and bad reviews now may hamper future sales of the continued product line and Unlike the last CoD, there are still copies at my local walmart for all platforms and we had far more boxes of CoD show up they didn't bother putting them on the shelfs.

yes IWS is a fanboy but at least he is around.... Where the hell is the other cpm? The only other CPM I have really seen around here interacting with the community has been Soraya.
I know some CPM members have been playing Destiny sooo sooo much more than Dust and that is just sad. I don't mean to be a gaming **** about it but come on... What happened to the commitment...? They could at least login to the forums once a week... You guys could say you are doing behind the scenes work but I don't care about what you do in your little secret society rituals... CPM should represent the community, not just themselves and their own singular opinion. All of you guys were 100x more active when you were actually campaigning...
I also think that you two should just agree to disagree. @ IWS no matter what your intentions may be.. you always get told crap and trolled lol. Although, in this particular thread, there are valid points being made on both sides.
1. Destiny is not the second coming of Jesus. Neither was GTA4, Neither was Super Mario bros... Maybe for legend of Zelda. :p
2. Destiny is going to continue making money for a long time. They will no doubt profit. Day one sales won't come close to the real number.. at least not for destiny. Destiny will have dlc. dlc does not need a cd to be made, it doesn't need to be shipped. Cost of production is cheaper and profit margins will be wider. With cloud services becoming more and more popular, I would hope that prices would go down a bit one day in the future but I won't get my hopes up. Greed is not an easy thing for these business types to overcome... However the destiny player base will probably be cut in half in the near future. The loyals will stay... the sheep will leave to the next hyped up game. It is just the cycle of gaming we see every time a big game title is released.
3. Every game gets bad reviews and every game gets good reviews. People need to learn to judge things for themselves. A review is not fact, a review is an opinion. People may like a certain magazine or website but what they are really liking is a certain writers point of view. Just take a look at these forums. I see one half of people fanboying Destiny and the other half Fanboying Dust. Same thing with Cod. A ton of people love cod but you still always hear cod players being made fun of. IMO reviews are pointless as I think most people should think for themselves. I know IWS can think for himself as I seen you critically analyze a game before. IGN ? GameInformer? all nonfactor opinions... Besides it is partially reviewers faults for hyping up games and many times they are in league with the game companies so they could both turn a bigger profit.
