At least they let us know those phony promises, of which most were not even promises.
In fact if you watch all the videos (i don't actually expect anyone to do so in one go) then you will see that they project their hopes, no promises in sight.
That was spiffing.

I concluded that rather obviously the majority of devs have been moved to legion, hence why we don't hear from many on DUST 514...

I wasn't implying a conspiracy, honest. I'm just annoyed that we were promised interaction. We have regular interaction with two CCP employees. When has anyone heard any about Legion? We know they are working on it, but aren't they going to ask us anything? Developing Legion in a vacuum seems like a recipe for disaster.

I think the Dust team is doing really good right now. They take input from the community and are really open with what they want to do. It's really quite refreshing because I can't think of many other dev teams that do that. Good job. (^_^ ) you're an inspiration to developers everywhere. Dust team with Rattati that is. Anything before him, I don't even want to think about.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you here. Communication between developers and player base has been exceptional since Ratatti took the reigns; just looking at the feedback and suggestions sticky threads shows how much they're talking to us, both in terms of minute details of various weapon performance fixes and the broader picture/direction of the game. We *literally* have threads dedicated to the narrative of the next hot fix. And they so listen to us, and feedback has been acted on.
My only gripe is that the CPM are often so quiet outside of there own chambers, but I understand that much of what they do is informed by information that is tightly gripped by NDA's. Still, some more interaction with them in the general forums would be nice.
In so far as transparency towards the long term future of Dust? Frankly, I don't think even they know for sure now. The hot fixes are proving to be wildly successful in comparison to the old updates, and Dust feels quite fresh for me now when I play it. I think it's having a quiet renaissance, and I wonder if that has been picked up on by higher powers and given pause for thought.

The hotfixes are amazing. I have enjoyed every one of them. They all feel very well thought out, with well-reasoned changes with data to back them up.
I guess I just expected more from CCP Rouge and the Legion team.

The NDA is a helluva thing, but it is what allows them to learn about CCP's secrets and hopefully guide them in the right direction. Without it they are just glorified figureheads.

I consider Rouge to be the dedicated lead for Project Legion, who receives reports from the Dust team periodically and has ultimate authority over its long term future, but the practical stuff is left to Rat and co, which would explain why we hear so very little from him. A cautionary note, then; when you do see the next dev post bearing Rouges' name, brace yourself for what will come next, because it won't be a Little Thing.

I'd like it... You'd like it... But half the community would shout 'Waaah what about Dust, you're screwing us over with the game we actually wanted...'
So it's probably best they just stay quiet until they have something worth pissing everyone off about. |

The guys that are interacting with us (Rattati, Archduke, Logibro, and sorry if I forgot anyone else.) Have opened up better lines of communication than we ever had in the past.
Part of this is due to the initiative to use player feedback more and part of it seems to be out of an attempt to actually interact and be part of the community, so I am happy with these improvements thus far and hope to see more movement in those directions.
@Archduke, I have mad respect for you. Dealing with what is probably a mountain of support tickets and still interacting in a very light / fun manner on the forums is an impressive feat. |

I think Dust is having something of a quiet comeback as well. The numbers from eve-offline.net point to it, and anecdotally, I've ran into 4 different mercs in the past month back from my D-Uni days... these guys all quit sometime in the past year, but came back to check things out. At least 3 have stuck around so far, now that they re-connected with the guys they used to play with.
The "Destiny is a Dust-killer" idea is way overblown, but it's true the forums seem to be a little more quiet... I expect that to change after a month or so. Could be seen as a good thing, actually -- with all the protostomping bittervets gone to screw around in another game, gives newer mercs a chance to run around a bit.

As a development studio with what is quite possibly the world's most popular space economy/politics simulator on PC, their entire staff should be saying **** consoles. Their team understands that PC development is crucial to a game that will be ever growing and evolving, because the platform does alongside it. What may be a hardware restriction now may not be in a year or two. PS3 had what... three different hardware iterations (that were INCREDIBLY minor) over a ten year lifespan...?
They should especially now say, "**** consoles" after they spent so many years simply TRYING to make a functional console game (and are only JUST getting there, years after the public has their hands on it). It's also a matter of "the performance ceiling is here, how can we work within these limitations?" for consoles, rather than, "We have the time for X and Y feature, which do we implement first?" for PC.
Fortunately CCP seems fine after Dust 514's development presumably hemorrhaging their funds, so if nothing else they've built a (rather small) fanbase and have a decent concept of what makes a decent FPS (and poor console experience). Theoretically everything we get from here on out is an improvement, enjoyable, and fun...right? ....right?
......right....?
