For Rookies who haven't gotten nosey and googled "Dust" "EVE" "Community" much:
If you're getting frustrated by the number of times you're being clocked from attackers you don't even get a chance to spot, because they are squishing you before you even take 20 steps in this game----taking 20 minutes off from the game for some entertaining laughs and mysteries will keep your blodd pressure down. CCP has had 10 years to fully elaborate this entire imaginary universe called New Eden, where our Dust combat takes place. And they cleverly chronicled the details in the form of an imaginary Intergalactic News Feed, (think of it like reading BBC News online).
They call it "World News" and it's NOT author-fiction, or player-written stories. It's the BACKSTORY that is chronilogically WRITTEN BY THE DEVS themselves,... ...and it explains where a lot of your weaponry and tech comes from, why one race holds a grudge against another, why only SOME of you weapons appear in the militia marketplace, and who the devil IS Kaaliokotia--whaa, and why is their name on my proto gun?
Each report is a quick-read, so you only have to schlopp through what catches your interest---not like reading a heavy novel if you're not into that stuff.
Some of the reports will make you LOVE your racial gear (or start hatine the other merc because of HER racial gear)
Some of the reports uncover mini-Watergates and double-crosses. I read this stuff, and I thoroughly suspect that Empress Jamyl is secretly a CLONE, and not the real Jamyl.
Some of the reports are based on ACTUAL incidents that Eve players caused to happen IN-THE-GAME (CCP cleverly used their News Feed to turn the incidents into a permanent part of New Eden history). It was my hope that they'd be writing about OUR Dust exploits once we got fully into PC battles,.. they STARTED to.... but, that's a different issue to discuss.
THIS link is to the very beginning of the Feeds, originally written by CCP Svarthol almost exclusively: http://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/world-news/?page=38
THIS link gets you to the most current reports, written mostly by CCP Eterne, a great writer who was laid off recently (but whose work in this New Feed really deserves a salute--): http://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/world-news/
Hope it entertains you.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

If they write about us, they should write about how the Gallente infantry wallopped the Caldari In factional and had them against the wall since day one. Seriously, the only reason that the Caldari hold as much ground as they do is because CCP had to pull a deus ex machina and add a mechanic where the more ground you gained, the more time you spent defending rather than taking more. So when the rare occurrence that the Caldari win, they get to keep it for a while by default. They've made it so that it's impossible for the Caldari to lose the war.

No... it seems as though, in the EVE games, only the most notorious double-crosses (where one player-corp is able to infiltrate and bilk billions of ISK from the treasury of another player-corp), or seriously shocking spaceship battles where the fight went on for 3 days and cost players ENORMOUS ship loss, get reported in the World News.
I WAS surprsed that the Million Clone Event we had in Dust didn't get a mention---I felt SURE that would have been made into New Eden fiction history somehow...
No, unless we get deeply into PC warfare again, I don't think Dust will make any more contributions. We HAVE made a few stories. The introduction of clone mercs and our reason for being "quarantined" in the Molden Heath region of space, ARE fictitiously explained in the World News, in

and

But we have to be fully released into PC (and FW) to make REAL news...

Kaze, I was just never really sure if the Caldari Prime event was an actual PLAYER occurence, or if CCP just put in all the "Shiigeru" (spelling?) planet-fall stuff as fiction added onto a space-based player event. It was tremendous, and CCP did a whole video around it to promote Dust... but was a player-corp Caldari spaceship actually destroyed and slameed into the surface? ...I just wasn't sure enough to include it as an example.
But you're right---it's too big a story to miss!

But you're right---it's too big a story to miss! No it happened in Dust and EVE, albet to a limited extent. That first article was what got peoples attention and people speculated and metagame thought about the upcoming real world event and wondered if it might be tied to that: the event being PAX East 2013 (CCP was to be there).
(Side note: More Fed news and Amarrian news about clones close to that time period.
March 3rd, T-19 days to PAX East: Ground fighting erupts on Caldari Prime Still no changes in Dust, but some RP people started gravitating to the General forums on both sides.
I believe there are announcements about EVE/Dust and the CCP crew being at PAX East and to take a look. Then Caldari and Gallente tensions escalate.
March 18th, T-4 days to PAX East: Civil unrest intensifies on Caldari Prime
Same day: Unrest on Calari Prime Results in bombing of Provist headquarters
March 19th, T-3 days: Luminaire situation still unstable, revered Caldari Admiral called back into service
Same day: Admiral Yanala gives first weekly address from orbit of Caldari Prime
I believe some people were wondering how the heck would you fight in high sec space if you would be CONCORDed? The answer would come soon (both lore and game-mechanic wise).
March 20th, T-2 days: Concord Issues Luminaire Travel Advisory in the wake of escalated conflict
And advisories were issued. The moment you logged in the game, you were "advised" not to go to Luminaire. So naturally, everyone (mostly) flocked to Luminaire.
Same day: Federation Navy releases Caldari Prime status report after stand-off with Shiigeru. By now, people are refreshing and checking the World News feed or putting them into RSS readers to push notifications. Things are looking extremely dangerous (and exciting).
March 21st, T-1 day: Caldari Prime unrest escalated further, Provist response called into question. Yes, that's a "weapons ready alert and fully prepared to enter low orbit" titan above your heads.
There are many great posts but what was the breaking point? When a CONCORD vessel ge...
