I don't recognise many of them anymore. Gone are the old days indeed. I guess they all just quit. I know when I want to get my tank fix these days I just play War Thunder; DUST tanking is dull nowadays.
Most fun I ever had in DUST was fighting guys with Scattered Ion Blasters with my own. I always felt bad for the people using rails and missiles in pubs (except the redline dickheads)...
It would seem like wisdom, but for the warning in my heart...

THis was inevitable with tanking.
We had a hard choice to make as a community and developers in the tank revamp.
Either tanks and tankers where gonna follow the original concepts of DUST and be an end game game play... Leaving them costing millions each... and require 10-20m SP to get the most out of the items. Which is how tanks and vehicles where designed in DUST originally. As an End game.
Originally the Warpoint system was in place so that Mercenaries would then have to go out on the battlefield and acquire a set amount of war points before they could ever call in a tank or a Fighter or a Turret structure... Having a self balancing mechanic in the game to Vehicle spam. The Commanders of each battle where also given a limit of say 8 vehicles and they could choose 2 tankers, 2 fighters 2 dropships and 2 LAV's or whatever variation of allocation... That then limited the max amount of that vehicle on the battlefield.
Obviously this was a feature CCP couldn't find any time to really establish or build on from Original showings in 2009 and 2010.
So given that CCP didn't have enough time to actually build the features that where conceptualized to balance the vehicle game CCP and the community had to make a choice on how vehicles where to even work in DUST 514.
There is keeping it an end game gamestyle... With multi-million dollar tanks with one of the harshest learning curves on Consoles..
Or it was turning them into a simplistic, cheap and easy to use and access arcade version of what we had for tanks... Allowing new players to use competitive versions and keeping them expendable enough that players could use tanks as a full time gameplay instead of a bonus and endgame gameplay.
This was the smartest choice given the resources... The only problem is they left no diversity in fitting a tank... They left cookie cutter builds as the only option for competitive use.. Leaving their entire customization system almost as a mockery to anyone who chose vehicles as their main vocation in DUST.
It's more sad the giant missed opportunity by CCP to not test full racial tanks and weapons on the DUST IP... and get a grasp of their functionality and balance and place in the IP.... It's just a giant wasted chance to get Revenue, Testing of concept and Feedback from a veteran community on a Complete racial Tank game, |

There was this one time, where I was on Manus Peak and there were two Dropships tearing everything to shreds with 20GJ Blasters and Small Missile Turrets, and then I jumped behind cover. I was picking off their gunners with an AR when suddenly, two Assaults and a Logi jump out and start running towards me.
I manage to kill both of the Assaults thanks to some random sniper who weakened them for me, but then the Logistics jumped right in my face. Surely, I thought I was done for until my squadmate runs him over and says "Get In!".
When I do, the Dropships fly towards us, and then open fire on our LAV. So I switch to the gunner's seat to see if I can get them off our backs, and it happened to be a Cycled Missile Launcher. After firing a few bursts, I manged to kill one of their gunners, and knock the DS around enough to where it stopped chasing us... for a bit.
Then, when we're riding to Charlie when they decide to return... again. So then I tell my squadmate, "quick, to the Supply Depot!". We both pulled out our Anti-Armor fittings, and then managed to fend off of both the Dropships until the match ended.
This was the most fun I've ever had in DUST, besides doing PCs with HvLP. I'll never forget it either, as it's what encouraged me to get Assault Swarm Launchers...

I really miss having marauders and variable fit vehicles to shoot at. |

Meaningful engagements with aerial vehicles are a little diamond in the rough in DUST's gameplay.
Sadly their offensive abilities have been buffed to crazy proportions and their defensive abilities have been reduced to that of a wet paper bag.
It's sad when engagements with a Buzzard(Military Attack helicopter) In Grand Theft Auto 5, against a player standing in an open field lasts longer then DUST with super human dropsuits with shield and armor against a Dropship.
It's just hilarious when a vehicle built for troop transport in DUST has better killing potential then Aerial military vehicles in a Grand Theft Auto where 1 shot headshots exist with every weapon.
