My HMG heavy needs a sidearm with range. You heavies know what I mean. I thought the Magsec was the answer but the bolt pistol seems to be more accurate at range. Anyone have experience with it as an effective sidearm?

But yeah, I do like the bolt pistol. Good range, and it's the only weapon I can get to reliably hit Cal scouts. I don't have much experience with the higher tiered ones, but I wish it did more alpha damage or had more rounds. |

Just try to use a SMG on one and they will out strafe it everytime!

it is a very good sidearm, but not as good as it could be. needs bigger clip or rof. plus I want the SR-25 because that was the name of the sniper rifle from socom!

This is not me hating on Moody or anything, but the Bolt Pistol has a -MASSIVE- amount of bullet magnetism when compared to the ScP and -especially- compared to the Ion Pistol which feels like it gets literally nothing in the way of behind the scenes help.
With the Bolt Pistol, if you have someone in or even near your hipfire reticle, the bullet -will- connect with the target 19/20 times. Even the ADS will get you hits when it's not directly on target. And damn does it like to hand you headshots when it does hit from hipfire. Couple that with near sniper rifle damage at Assault Rifle ranges, and you got yourself a gnarly weapon indeed.
I'm honestly surprised that I don't see more of it on the field than I do. The charge up just scares folks away I suppose. That or people just don't try anything other than the ScP and Smg.

Fascinating! Trying it out today. Hey do you guys have any opinions on the magsec? I like it better than SMG as a sidearm for my heavy, due to its range, but the kick makes it really hard to hit farther out in its effective. |

The bolt pistol currently does absolutely awful dps and its ammo capacity is really, really low. A magsec has 1900 damage per magazine (higher than smg), it has higher range than the smg, and it does comparable dps as the smg.
Honestly, stick with the magsec until they announce what's going to be done with sidearms in delta.
Or look at the spreadsheet in this post to make a choice. Remember that the scrambler pistols there aren't accounting for headshot damage, so you might find a breach scrambler pistol to be your ideal sidearm for ammo conservation and damage.

The DPS in that spreadsheet seems too low. Using the usual DPS formula (damage*RPM/60) it has 371.5 DPS, pretty much in line with other sidearms. But unlike other sidearms, it has both long range and low kick. So I think it is a solid option. |

I skilled into the thing to proto and used 2 complex sidearm damage mods on a Cal Sentinel with a burst HMG. At prof 3 I was doing almost 200 damage per hit against armor with the thing.
It could use some range, and maybe a few more shots in the clip, but other than that it's amazing when it comes to damage output.
Oh, and headshots are even more lethal
