currently hacking has very limited uses and i dont believe any one has used a hacker tool at all in foreverinsted of a plate or repper or extender or w/e
my idea is simple, give hacking a role beyond that of just captureing points and stealing vehicles
firstly.. hacking vehicles needs to get its points back! but have it so a hacked vehicle has 30s-1min before it can be hacked again
now.. Equipment hacking!
see an RE? +10 WP for hacking and disabling it!
see an uplink? +10 WP for hacking it which changes it to serve your team but since it is hacked you only get +10wp per spawn
see a hive? +10 for hacking it but current nanite clusters drops by 1/2 and repaired armor is 1/2
now for the balance.. uplinks and hives need a slight hp boost maybe 200 hp standard up to 300-400 at proto.. a single flux of RE will fix them in an instant.
abusing hacking of equipment? nope! if they are counter-hacked with in 30 seconds then the internal cpu will overload and go BOOM. the player will receive the +10 points for the hack but also receive 100 hp damage, 31 seconds or more? its a-ok to counter-hack and bring the equipment back to your side!
i feel the risk is great enough as you have to take your eyes off the map and screen to look down at the ground or at the wall (like a potato) leaving your brain and back open for any one to abuse willingly or not!
this will also open the way for perhaps subterfuge scouts which hack enemy equipment with a hacker tool equipped thus effectively turning the tide of the battle!

brings a new level of game-play for all but probably more-so for scouts so they can actually be scouting and subterfuge instead of just fast cloaky 1-2 hit killers

Like but no increase to health of equipment.
What would be nice - you need a codebreaker to hack these "new" types
Oh and I do run a presto chango dual code-breaker Lv5 minja. Need to try it with a single complex to see if I notice the difference but dual is quite fun.

These changes are nice however active scanners and scanning are somewhat broken i think.. i kind of had the idea to ahve scanners all with same strength but have the 3 types changed so you got a 60m 360 scan.. 120m 180 scan.. and then something for the snipers.. a 5degree 1000m range scan. and the db of the suit == time spent on the tacnet.. ie scouts can get like 19 db iirc so thats 1.9 seconds on tacnet where as heavys are 46db 4.6seconds now there can be a modifer for scanned duration bonus for active scanners but also a counter skill to lower duration time too.. thats just my idea on that

Yes but we already had this discussion with equipment having more health than scouts and players having to spend too much ammo/time to destroy them. Its better how it is at the moment imho

Hacked vehicle s should be able to be stolen and recalled and all parts and modules be stripped an end up in the hackers inventory unless its a bpo otherwise only the modules, these items show in salvage

**disclaimer don't take any if this information and try this at home unless you have full consent of your target**
Hacking and Hacker tools are only part of the equation. It's more important to understand the entire kill chain of an attack, then you can understand which tool to apply at which stage of the chain.
The chain is: Recon > weaponization > delivery > exploit > install > command and control > action.
As with most things, it's better to start at the beginning and hone your skills in the recon phase. Here, you can use many multi purpose tools for information gathering that don't always look suspicious because they are not pure 'Hacker Tools'. These include tools like ping, nslookup, Whois, and good old google with advanced search operators. Also other tools that must be installed, but no less suspicious if used correctly such as dnsmap, fping, nmap, or Nessus. These tools are used to find out simple information that will prepare you for the next stage of your attack such as:
What am I attacking (OS level, software running and version)? Where is it located(both geo and network location)? Who owns it(is it a mom and pop shop or a corporation that can afford high end ids/ips and staff to support it)? How well is it maintained(can be gather by looking at both what it is and it's forward facing pages last update)?
The primary point of recon is to find the soft target. Depending on how soft the target, you can often skip many other steps in the kill chain, or at least, find automated ways to get around them with very little effort. If you are looking to attack a specific target, you will spend most of the time in your recon phase either trying to find that targets weak point or waiting or a zero day to utilize.
I'll skip weaponization for now because this is the most complicated part that I myself can only speak to conceptually, but this stage is usually handled outside of the attacker himself and is only obtained. Much like a solider doesn't actally build his gun.
Delivery is sometimes skill, sometimes luck, sometimes both. It can be a well crafted email that causes a user to install a tool on their workstation, or an improperly setup web facing server that allows writes to it ./
Install usually goes hand and hand with delivery, but keep in mind that a successful delivery does not equal a successful install. This is the most common place the chain is killed due to endpoint AV. This is why exploit is between the two. Exploit can mean exploiting the vulnerability you identified in your recon phase, exploiting a users ignorance, or exploiting a common vulnerability that you only guess, assume, or really just hope is there.
C&C is the first real scary part. At this point you are actually 'there' most of the time. This of this as the point in a B&E where you're standing in the living room, but haven't taken anything yet. You hope that you've reconed well and know that nobodies home, but the owner could still be in the next room holding a 38, or moments away from driving up.
Action is what you do from this point. It's usually either moving files, destruction, or using your current access to gain even higher access to a later attack.
Often overlooked is repudiation. This isn't represented well in the kill chain model but is covered in STRIDE. Repudiation can be thought of as covering your tracks, and is getting harder and harder as companies invest in log aggregator tools like Splunk. Even if you manage to fully own a box as a stage point for other attacks, if it's logging to an aggregator in real time, modding or wiping logs on the box you own isn't going to be enough.
Hope this helps!

I always liked the idea of a firewall module.
It would make an extra wall of protection that you'd have to tear down to get to the actual hack. The higher tier versions would take a longer time to hack. Also, the enemy shouldn't be able to tell if a firewall is installed. They'll only know when they get rid of it or they notice that the hack is taking longer than usual.
For example, Objective Bravo is ours. I run up to it with my firewall module and hold down circle for a few seconds to install a firewall.
Now when the enemy tries to hack the objective he'll pretty much have to hack it twice for it to flip which allowed my scout friend to intercept him before he could get to the second hack.
