I tried a round with the Ion Pistol/Flaylock Pistol for a round. They were mostly spamming proto heavys, so I didn't get a lot of kills. A bunch of min scouts, so I got the 1 hit KO a bunch of times. My score: http://imgur.com/BYMiix3

I could have sat in my tank and killed 22 people with a ion pistol equipped and could easily say OH WOW The Ion Pistol is OP just look at the screen that I made!!

I only take pics of the killboard...I'll try to remember next time. I was just flanking everyone. Most were ADV and some proto, and of course a few militia guys out there.

The flaylock is ridiculously hard to use but the ion is pretty simple. That said the ion isn't all that great against heavies unless you can follow it up with something else. I sometimes like to put a std mass driver with an ion pistol on a std assault fit and it works pretty well at killing std-proto lights, mlt-std heavies, or std-adv mediums.
The trick to the ion pistol is to aim for center mass and hip fire spam it but STOP before it over heats then finish the magazine when you can much like the ScR in CQC. The Wild Fire on the ion pistol works pretty well to ensure at least a few rounds hit. I usually then switch off to the mass driver once the shields are gone. The ion pistol cools down pretty quick so with proficiency 3 in ion pistols I can get through the 12 shots relatively quickly. |

I used the basic. It's meh. I shot someone and the round hit at nova knife range. It dealt no damage. Although the level 4 flaylock pistol is decent.

It's a better fit on an assault or heavy suit IMO. The charge shot is for a surprise kill when you turn a corner to 1 hit the injured scout stalking you.

Doing well with the Ion Pistol in pubs is completely doable. In competitive matches however, it is almost worthless especially when considering the other options available. The SMG and the Scrambler Pistols are so powerful that they can be used as stand-alone weapons and don't even need to be treated as sidearms. |

In competitive matches most gear is worthless sadly. Such tends to be the way in competitive games. No game designers ever reach perfection with so many variables. |
