even with the new heavy fitting nerf it's almost senseless to put more than a point or two into fitting optimization
http://www.protofits.com/fittings/shared/337/6447
it's probably more useful on the other sentinels because amarr is the worst forge gunner. but just look at what 2 million points into forge fitting level 5 gets me on that suit. practically nothing i get about 100 extra eHP and a point or two less armor rep than i do on my suit right now. that's stupid why would you spend 2 mil on that even if your another sentinel
http://www.protofits.com/fittings/shared/337/6443
ive spent 1.3 mil on sentinel fitting since charlie dropped. but only one point was spent on HMG fitting optimization because i mostly needed CPU not PG.
the only reason it was worth it was because i can fit a proto flux and advanced scp on my suit that has no reps, both of those advanced on my HMG suit with two complex reps, and a slightly better forge gun suit. emphasis on slightly
correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure theres next to no point in fitting optimization for other weapons. especially the ones who have a Specialist variant in the LP store. i literally have no desire to spend another point in assault rifles because first of all they got the **** nerfed out of them back when i first started using them last year. most importantly theres no point. i dont need any more PG. it might be different if i ran assault with a better rifle but i sincerely doubt you guys need to go past level 1 or 2. the logi i run with the specialist AR is fine how it is
past level 2 im pretty sure it's another one of those pointless skills like dropsuit command past 3 which literally grants nothing.

Not really sure how each optimization stat is determined.
Plasma cannons, for instance, get reduced CPU with the skill, because they take up a massive amount of CPU, and almost no PG.

Your statement is now correct. For sentinels PG optimization becomes critical when mounting forges on Calfats and minfats
You can load a full tank at proto but you'll probably have to leave the fancy grenades and sidearms on the toilet seat, so hope you have a toxin for point defense, or that CCP buffs the faillock cuz that fit's gonna suuuuuck. |

Today I took a weapon to fitting optimization lvl1 to gain 1 extra PG on my proto suit so I could specifically fit a proto module.
I think lvl 1 fitting opt is 38k sp and lvl 2 is 111k I believe. If you need that extra 1 PG for something specific then it is a no brainer.
But I can't see putting SP into it randomly especially at higher levels. Only when it's deemed necessary.

that's generally the point of the fitting skills to begin with.
The only ones you should SP dump into are the dropsuit electronics and engineering skills, as well as the weapon CPU skills.
The fitting optimization is something you add in as your fits become more beefy. But even so you cap out with one or two modules (or weapons) at sub-advanced level. |

For a game composed primarily of grinding for small, incremental improvements, fitting optimization is perhaps the smallest bump you get for equivalent SP.

remember too they round up, meaning if the result is 2.4, then you won't get a - 3 pg, only 2 still. You need to get a result of 2.5 to get - 3, correct me if i'm wrong. I don't think 1 + mil is worth it to get - 3 pg on something, but the fitting op. maxed on the plc is 'worth it', and it was 'worth it' on the smg for me as i got a tight allotek plc/cala smg fit. the ones i figured were only good to put 3 into fitting op. were SG and AR, i think i put 4 in SR. any other points and i'd see no results. yeah but a huge/the hugest? sp sink. but like you said you would be able to fit that next level flux, or that other plate if not... |

everything in the game is tracked to 2 decimal places
meaning if the result is 2.4 then you get exactly 2.4 powergrid it doesnt do any rounding anywhere except for the sanitised statsheet
that also means if you have skilled into skills to increase your powergrid for example, the amound of powergrid your suit has isnt a whole number... its something like 84.38, and so having a weapon drop down to cost 2.30 powergrid will make it fit despite it showing that you only have 2 PG left in your suit.
becuase of this its also possable to enter situations were it desplays that you have 1 PG left but you end up being able to equip a 2pg granade simply because the stat sheet rounds numbers even when the fittings themselves use un-rounded decimals

I only invested in X Weapon Upgrades when an attempted fit was off by one pg. Even that was after two fives in the Dropsuit Upgrades skills related to power grid. Just ask anyone whose been in the same corp as me, I'm mega anal retentive about SP expenditures. Wasted SP is a sin.
I have a lot of respect for Classic Logis. New Eden could use more Healers.

I amusingly have fitting op V in combat rifles and smg's. Besides the flaylock these are probably the worst sp per pg skills in the game. That said my proto CR fits? All at the max of allowable PG. Generally speaking you can usually get most of what you want with normal pg skills, fitting ops generally just give you better quality of life things. For example I got those skills to V to allow me to fit a m209 smg rather than just a bpo one. I get a token amount of more dps but i dislike feeling i left anything out that could give me the slightest of edges. A lot of times though the extra couple pg is really there just to upgrade my equip slot. **** my favorite cal scout fit uses the specialist CR just to free up enough pg for one level higher hives.
If you're still running remotes on a scout or cal scout especially fitting ops are basically the difference in running an adv remote or having to sac your other slots for basic remotes.
Granted the Rail Rifle and Scram rifle benefit handily in terms of pg reduction and its extremely helpful to fit them on different race suits. I mean you should never get the feeling on an amarr proto assault of oh gee i need more pg because its pretty ridiculous.
Now on the Cal Assault? 80pg is always maxed and I always have 100+ CPU to spare its just mind boggling. |

I stick around here because I'm curious enough to watch the ship slowly sink.

I like the fitting optimization skills as they are. Not essential but nice to squeeze in a little extra HP, an advanced rather than basic SMG, or whatever. If every skill was MUST HAV OR U DIEZ!!!! anyone below about 30mil SP might as well not bother, |
