Would you rather join the best corp you can but be benched occasionally and be in the lower half of the leaderboard or would you join a sub top tier corp where you are guaranteed a spot on the a team and be in the top half?

I would say it depends on the player. I joined the Corp I'm in because I felt comfortable not because of stats. Pretty sure everyone wants to be in the top half of the board.

You realize the mechanics only favor the winning team, so regardless of your scoreboard position only the win matters?

Both are appealing.
On the one hand, joining the better team would not only likely result in more wins, but also the ability to learn from players better than yourself.
On the other hand, joining the lesser team would allow you more practice against the best competition DUST offers.
Provided I was still having fun and getting along with my corpmates, I would likely just stick with the corp I was with -- I'm loyal like that. |

id rather be in a smaller corp, because of the family atmosphere rather than a big corp where the leader hangs with his/her exclusive group, while every1 else is farmed off of.
