Fits for your guns. Works just like dropsuit fits. PROTO gun will have more capacity and slots than an STD. Just imagine. Shhhh. Keep imagining. Grips, damage mods, ROF mods, stocks, all that good stuff. Make it happen in Leigon CCP
Why must you use prototypes?

Yes, I too hope Legion has a Gunsmith customization option.
Obviously, it should have as much flexibility as Eve Ship fitting, though I also feel that it shouldn't be 100% required. If someone doesn't want to screw around with fitting their guns, they should be able to still use them and they should still be functional without the fittings.
However, if I want to take the time to fit my guns, there should be tangible benefits to my doing so.

Won't happen because CCP Shanghai is currently under the directorial delusion that Dust is too complicated. Obviously doing something that every other game does would also be too complicated. Can't make things too complicated now can we. |

To be honest the customisation is already good enough without really needing modular weapons considering this is a shooter. It was talked about in the early days but i think it just would be a ***** to balance when the balance is already fairly good at this point.

Decent video game balance is one of the easiest things in the world to achieve providing you actually play your own game. It just doesn't happen very often because most management is too blind to recognize that such people need to be in the right places. Most devs in the industry think its hard to balance, but that really isn't the case. They just aren't capable gamers with a broad enough perception of how things interact.
I don't consider balance to ever be a legitimate argument for or against any feature. I simply think the people who are too stupid to achieve that balance should be fired and replaced with actual gamers. Rattati being the poster child for what happens when you take a person who actually plays and put them in charge of balance. |

Why limit it to guns? How about custom equipment as well? Or grenades?
Think of it like this: anything that has variants right now in Dust: let us set up those variants in game.
For example: the only nanohives would be factory-standard nanohives. Players could modify with things such as "ammo expansion unit", "supply processor" (amount deployable), and "nanite range enhancer" (ammo bubble size) The CPU/PG cost of the equipment could be purely dependent on the CPU/PG cost of the sub-modules.
Think of the possibilities.

Think of the possibilities. That is a good approach. So every modification you make to an item has a benefit as well as a drawback. -In order to extend the range of a Plasma Rifle you have to convert it to a single shot weapon (Tactical Assault Rifle). -In order to increase the life of a NanoHive you need to add an additional nanite reservoir which would add additional cost to the NanoHive as well as requiring more PC/CPU.
This would also allow the addition of things like different styles of scope and cross hairs which would be more personal preference rather than a buff. So just changing the crosshair/sight style would not have a drawback, but increasing the zoom (buff) would have a drawback.
Then they could add visual modifications such a colour and charge AUR for them. Although people arenGÇÖt big on paying AUR on single use items, so make the cosmetic stuff BPOGÇÖs. Then people would pay more AUR when they want to change their look, rather than for ever fit.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.
