How about the sidearms are subpar (like they are, but after they have been buffed by a little er..."rebalanced"), but they have an insane bonus to something. Like: The Scrambler Pistol has an insane headshot bonus (check), the Flaylock pistol has a high alpha (but only has 3 skill shots in a clip), the Ion Pistol has an insane charge shot (that would actually justify it automatically overheat...), and the Bolt Pistol getting insane range (Just the old basic rail rifle range more or less). Seems good? Idk im bored and stuff sooo...just thunkin bout how 2 mayk da game interestablaing er sumth1n lawlzzz.

Sidearms don't really have a role atm. They're just an extra thing to slap on.
Sidearms are made for one of two purposes:
1.) To cover a weakness in the main weapon. 2.) To quickly drop a target when you are caught while reloading.
Covering weakness is the main appeal of the SMG and MSec. Both are High ROF weapons with decent range. They are made to support the longer range main weapons as viable CQC weapons.
Dropping a target quickly SEEMS to be the main appeal of the Scram Pistol and Ion Pistol, with High Damage applications. The Scram gets a huge headshot bonus and enough rounds in a clip to down most targets in a single clip (Especially with headshots). Ion pistol is SUPPOSED to function like this, except the full charge doesn't do near enough damage.
Flaylock falls into the dropping a target quickly category. However, it's direct damage means that it's made to finish off weakened targets, not being able to hold it's own as a main. If you are caught with your pants down and all you have is the flaylock, you are going to be in a fight for your LIFE. The other weapons give you a fighting chance.
Knives are specialty weapons. Personally, I think the Knives, PLC, and Swarms should all be equipment, but that's just me.
Anyways: How to fix the sidearms IMO.
Scram: Nothing. It's fine. SMG: Fine again. MSec: Fine. These three are the sidearm trifecta.
Ion: Just make it fully auto. A High Damage, ROF monster with very limited range and lengthy reload. Give it an overheat too. If you fire the full clip, it overheats. Balances it because while you can be guaranteed a kill, you will have to wait for it to cool down AND reload. Last Resort weapon.
Flaylock: Needs universal splash radius across the tiers. Splash damage is fine. Direct damage needs a buff. Direct should be 250, 300, 350 as you advance. This allows you to kill in a single clip if you land 1-2 body shots. Splash allows for finishing off targets. Harder to use due to small clip and how it handles, it should also have the benefit of being versatile for the good user.
Knives: This patch was good. Knives are great where they are.
Just my 0.02 ISK on the matter. Take it as you will.

They should just have -1 to all their skill multipliers. Doesn't make sense to require the same skill for an smg as for its big brothers.

Just my 0.02 ISK on the matter. Take it as you will. I wouldn't make the Ion fully auto. I would lower the heat increase and take away a second from the overheat seize time.
I would, also, up the RoF and increase the damage by two points per tier. Dazzit.
Maybe increase accuracy a tad bit? You know, so I can actually hit more than 4 shots out of the 12? |

I feel like sidearms should be like they are IRL: as deadly as larger weapons, just with less range and (generally) smaller clip size.

Everything's fine except:
Ion Pistol - The range is laughable. I say give it ridiculous damage to compensate, like 100-120 damage a shot.
Bolt Pistol - Needs more range. (Would make a good HMG sidearm) As stated earlier, it could use 2 more shots in a clip.
Flaylock Pistol - Double the blast radius, and it's good.
I think this would bring the sidearms in line.
I don't redline snipe, jihad LAV, cloak shotgun, spawncamp, use aim assist, or FoTM chase.
Honor is my playstyle.

I think this would bring the sidearms in line. First of all...the flaylock isn't a mass driver....also...lol. I'd be cool with the Ion Pistol and Bolt Pistol buff, but lol. It shoots missiles...not grenades.

Hmm, you have a point about that Flaylock. Well since it's such a skill based weapon right now, a straight damage buff or clip size boost would bring it to level. Maybe?

It doesn't need longer TTK. Ignore the clip size.
It needs more direct damage. Leave the splash alone, everything else is fine.

It flys way too slow right now to get direct hits consistently on moving targets that are competent.

Now that I think about it, I find the damage output to be fine. Connecting shots is what's hard.
All in favor of raising projectile velocity of the Flaylock Pistol?

All in favor of raising projectile velocity of the Flaylock Pistol? Exactly. That's why buff the projectile speed. Hitting people directly is just...not worth it right now even if they are standing still since the hit detection sucks.
