I don't think they can do it, the controls code hidden under the aim assist is too rough and prolly too hard to fix at this point.
For a reminder of what CCP's raw controls are like we can always hop into FW and do some friendly-on-freindly firefights. It ain't pretty.

Aim assist is present in Dust 514 so that KB/M players can't steamroll this game's controller population. When Legion is launched I am all for the removal of aim assist. So long as Dust 514 exists on PS3 I want aim assist in place.

CCP has to add aim assist, because cntrl players had to suffer during the dark days of DUST.

If a player had posted this thread-suggestion 24hours before the AIM-ASSIST component was put into the game (what was it, Uprising 1.3 or so???).... the responses here would have been 30 times longer and nearly all of them the reverse answer.
Before the Aim Assist (which many of you con't realize, is the most gutsy, daring, controversially-democratic, aiming mechanism EVER to be built in the history of fps) was released, players were trying to ban it, blockade it, hire a witch doctor to hex it,... all before it was even released.
Even though players like myself were willing to enjoy Dust without Aim-Assist, we had a rough idea how valuable it would be for the New Player experience (Newberrys have so much other stuff to worry about in Dust---they deserve SOME kind of assister).
Today, the ONLY thing I regret about Dsut 541 Aim Assist,... is that I don't have a video chronicle showing how the fun-n-excitment meter exploded during the first 24 hours of activation. It was GLORIOUS...
Proto-vet squads being pushed back from the fight, purely by the ferocity of lesser players who were no longer cowering in fear.
Players running out into a hail of fire to inject a fallen buddy, simply because now two other friendlies felt confident enough to lay down suppression fire successfully enough to "cover that medic!"
I saw such, (sob), such... awe inspiring moments of VALOR. RAW, MEDAL of O' , VALOR (from players who you know must have been only 16 years old--God Bless 'em). My eyes were like watery saucers, I couldn't even blink, at the privelge witnessing such re-definition of the word "Courage", all in those first 24 hours...

The only problem is bullet magnetism. The normal aim assist only works if you don't aim. But if bullet magnetism is removed, the crap hit detection will be obvious.
The struggle is real.

Probably less than 5% of players use a mouse.
EVERY top player I've played with including myself has actually used a controller.
Even if you use a mouse on a console, the Input Lag is to much to make a noticable difference.

And when AA was gone before, 95 percent of the playerbase couldnt hit the broadside of the barn. Were you around for that? AA isnt even bad in this game. It was even more npticeable to me when I played Destiny. The AA was ridiculous.

i was playing a shotgun alt and was appalled that i could just stand there and have a range where i auto tracked the target, no trigger input needed.. it doesn't matter tho AA is part of gaming culture now, it really cant be escaped. dust was once a refuge from aim assist, you can't really unpolish a turd tho so AA is here to stay.
