The Rail Rifle's DPS is outclassed by the assault rifle. it's meant to be a beast at range, in fact caldari weapons are ideally suited to not engaging in close. Shields and brawls do not mix well.
The Rail Rifle is meant to be the longest-ranged of the four standard rifles. This is working as intended. Different weapons and fits are intended to spur adaptation and tactical/fitting flexibility in DUST fights. It is not a game that rewards "One True Build" syndrome.
It's rather akin to the flact that almost none of the weapons in the game behave in similar fashion to other racial counterparts at the baseline level. A Combat Rifle doesn't behave like an Assault Rifle. An Assault Combat Rifle Can behave similarly but not identically.
This is a feature, not a bug.
And no, the Rail rifle was not based off the Tommy Gun. None of the weapons were. It's more akin to the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR). -- Gee thanks Troll. Everything you say from now on will be ignored
Wow. Breakin Stuff gives you a very clear, well reasoned explanation of why you're wrong and all you can say is that he is trolling? Just because he is a member of goonfeet doesn't mean that he is constantly spewing **** just to get you're ire up. This was actually a great post.
You probably haven't been here long TIMMY (at least not based upon your posts) so I'll make it even simpler for you. Damage and range should have an inverse relationship (like so). The farther you can shoot the less damage you can do. This will encourage players to use different play styles depending on the weapons/suits they use and give each weapon its zone of dominance.
Right now the RR has a long range but low DPS (as it should) and is honestly in the most balanced state it has ever been. Your proposal to increase the AR's range or decrease the RR's range would only mean that either the RR would be useless or that the AR would become stupidly OP.
Maybe, instead of calling "troll" when someone disagrees with you, you should actually read what others have to say or it will be you who's posts are completely ignored going forward.

Coleman Gray wrote:You had me at "reduce the rail rifle" then I cried at the rest, the range is fine, just the damage needs putting in place with thee fully auto guns. The Tac AR was needed because it did high dmg and could shoot fully auto...now the RR does that but better and suddenly no one has an issue?
The TAC did far more DPS than the current RR that is why it was nerved. Add to that the fact that with a modded controller you had a 100% accurate full auto massive DPS weapon and you had one massively OP beast. Modded controllers don't work on the RR, it kicks like a mule in heat, and its DPS is the lowest of the current rifles. I don't think it is as bad as you may think.

Its people like this and threads like this that keep me coming back to the forums. My mere presence causes tears to flow. I need a logi to follow me with a rep tool and a spare bucket.
Lol. I love how you get those tears by being respectful and using facts as well. Hilarious.
TIMMY DAVIS wrote: Once you start shooting the Heavy you have to kill it before it finds you, or you are dead
So your real issue is heavies with RR eh? Well lets work on that shall we.
Here are some tactical options for you that work extremely consistently for me depending on what suit/weapon I'm using.
1) Focus fire. This is something you need to do with heavies in general. Just because it takes a couple of you shooting him to take him down quickly doesn't mean he's OP. Sentinals massive HP advantage is balanced by their awful speed so it is fine if it takes a couple of people to down one.
2) If you don't think you can take them don't engage. In any suit other than a heavy you are generally manueverable enough to avoid heavies and even with the RR's range they can't chase you around corners very well.
3) Scouts with shotguns and REs are heavies worst nightmare.
4) Circle strafe around them. Don't try anything fancy like figure-8's as most players can't follow a moving target to save their clone. Just use good old circle strafing and you'll will 99% of the time.
5) Get into your weapons optimal while flanking and unload on the heavy's head. The RR really is only a killer at longer ranges (50m plus) so engaging inside of this range will give you a massive advantage.
6) Get an in/out of cover rhythem going timed to the RR's charge up time. If you do this right you will apply damage in very short bursts when the RR user will be useless. If he starts just blasting away regardless of when you are in cover or not he will run out of ammo leaving you with yet another opening.
7) The ACR and CR are you anti-sentinal friends thanks to their balanced damage vs armor and shields.
8) Always flux Cal and Min Sentinals before going in for the kill. They have very little armor and are easy to take down once their shields are gone.
9) Grabe a militia heavy frame with a militia RR and join them (fight fire with fire if you will)
10) Crush them with a vehicle. They won't have any AV capability so this is relatively low risk.
Look at that! 10, count them 10, ways to kill heavies with RR. If there are so many ways to easily kill this particular setup it can' really be that OP now can it. Give it a try.
