Proficiency or a progression in suit. Which is better the weapon or suit.

I have 1 on mimatar assault and 3 on the CR prof. Should i just skill into minmatar assualt or put 5 on CR prof.

If your core skills are looking good I'd go with the suit at least to lvl 3. I haven't tried the Min Assault but I know Advanced (I've been using the G/1 Assault for a while now and it's pretty damn good) is better than Standard while remaining cheap ISK wise. It'll also be cheaper SP wise to get the lvl 3 suit than to get prof 5 on the weapon so you can get the suit out of the way and work on the weapon afterwards.

Agreed. I'd go for the lowest hanging fruit first and get the max skill bonuses for the least SP.

Not much sense in putting more proficiency in the CR if you don't have an advanced suit with some advanced modules on it.
Hopefully the buff Min Assault's about to get will be enough for your suit to be viable but...
If I were you, I'd try to find a buddy either here or in-game who's also Min Assault. They can tell you whether or not it's going to be worth it to skill into that suit. I sure as hell can't tell you.
I do know that a CR is very useful on any light, medium, or even commando suit.
Also, like they said, your Core skills are the most important. If you want to be infantry rather than a vehicle, then you need to get your CPU and PG up so you can fit things on your suit.

As others have said, Core Skills are more useful than either. However, I would say take the suit to at least ADV since they are getting a nice buff. Also, don't forget that DMG mods are getting buffed again, so that will make up for not maxing your proficiency right away.

When it comes to the Minmatar Assault, you should get it to III as soon as possible. Once you get to Prof III on the CR, you won't have to worry about upgrading it further for a while.
After that, your SP is better spent elsewhere. Though keep in mind that in Hotfix Charlie the MinAssault will be able to Shield or Armor tank, so you may invest SP into whichever tank you desire.
