is a funny sight to behold. I got my nephew to play dust for the first time just to see his reaction. I was feeling cruel so I wanted this supposed COD gamer to try dust. I'm his uncle I can F*** with him, its part of being family. After one game in the academy he his hooked and for the next five hours he plays on. He goes from having no clue to running with a squad and has chosen heavy as his play style with no help from me. It made me smile to see my nephew rise to the challenge and grasp the game so quick when others cannot after months troubles me.
He says he loves the game and through the pains of his first pub games he stilled used comms and tried to win even when his team had quit. I laughed when he started to yell at his team to get their S*** together. He took to dust like a fish to water I just wished we had more players like him.
Anyone else have family stories or stories they wish to share?

Good job, Uncle. Maybe let him try cigarettes next time? ******? (* Apparently, the prudes censor that drug that made Trainspotting such a great movie and so many great Rock n' Roll albums) My uncle made me eat a booger once. You just made him look like a saint.

I created a new account recently which meant going through the academy. I always chuckled when they crouched in the middle of a field to start shooting at me!

I gave my 5 year old niece to play the game back in early Uprising or late chromo. I gave her a mlt suit because at the time I cared about losing ISK.
She never played a shooter with a controller, and she could barely move/aim/do anything.
Then, it happened.... SHE KILLED A PROTOTYPE SUIT
From full health to 0, no help from anyone else, she just sprayed it down.

Cool story :)
I have a view on the above. Perhaps for some people, DUST is their first pure PvP shooter. It was mine. Because it was free. I don't play any other FPS. I've tried them before but never got into one. Until DUST.
It took me a while to figure out what's what, that headshots are a thing...more specifically...*aiming* for the head is a thing, situational awareness, etc etc etc. 18 months in, and I've also learnt that I'm an average FPS player. I still play though, and never give up when losing heavily. If it comes to being redlined, I simply change goals. Instead of trying to win I just try to hack the enemy home point. Or even just try to take out reds.
All of this to try and improve - AFKing or sniping (no offense snipers) will never improve me.

I had my roommate, my best friend, a bunch of my old gaming buddies, and even some random dude I met at a rave once...all try the game. Out of all of them, only the rave guy kept interest in the game, but sadly I stopped talking to him and while he had a PS3...had a ****** internet connection and couldnt get online.
The most interesting story was my roommate though.
He played it for probably 3 weeks and got really good at sniping. He would follow me around the map and sit about 100 meters out from the objective sniping anyone that tried to get close to me as I was hacking.
His biggest complaint was that he had to literally stop what he was doing and sit there for a few seconds before he could start sniping (he was used to borderlands mechanics), but for the most part he liked the skill system and how big the maps were.
Unfortunately he just didn't like the grind. We would talk about all sorts of fitting options I had available and how I could use all sort of roles and suits...while he was questioning why I told him to specialize into one suit. After explaining the whole passive sp system he asked me "so I'm always going to be behind everyone else, even though I'm being placed in matches with the top tier players?"
Even after showing him recently how much sp he had gained in the past year (almost 10 million), and talking about the charlie update, he still tells me that if the game had decent matchmaking he'd probably play it. "I mean heck, even Mario Kart 8 has a skill based matchmaking system"
Yeah :/

That sounded like me the first week. Is he old enough to progress to the "I don't give a f*ck, kick back with liquor and trot around laughing at the hokeyness of this game" phase?

He chose heavy for he said it was eaither the SMG, SG, or HMG was his style of weapon. So he went heavy instead of scout. I am glad he chose heavy over scout.
