I see a lot of people complaining about heavies, as well as defending heavies.
My main issue with heavies isn't that the HMG does too much damage or that the suits have too much HP/resistance, it's that they're too damn fast.
Let's take a look at TF2. Team Fortress 2 has a heavy class with very similar traits to the heavies in DUST 514, having an HMG, more health and slower. The biggest thing is that it is SLOW, very slow. It also has a shorter range weapons, which leaves it very vulnerable in open areas.
In Dust, proto heavies are extremely hard to kill and takes a lot of ammo to kill. Armor stacked heavies are slow, as they should be. My issue isn't with armor stacking, it's with KinCat stacking. Gallente heavies can currently pull off 2 complex kincats, an enhanced plate and a complex armor repair, making them self sufficient, tanky and substantially fast. If there was, say a penalty to heavies using KinCats, then it would increase the amount of time it takes for the heavy to close the gap and get the target into it's optimal range.
Proto heavies with armor stacking are vulnerable at range, because they're SLOW. Forcing them to be very defensive. Proto heavies with KinCats can pull off 7m/sec which I have a HUGE problem with. If a heavy can pull off 7m/sec it's very similar to a basic medium frame, which has no damage resistance, no access to heavy weapons, and half the HP. This is a very big problem as heavies can move around corners, escape damage when pinned, and assault points much easier, rendering the assault class even more obsolete.
The sentinel class should be used for what it's named after, being defensive. If you would like to be offensive with a heavy, then leave commando's speed the same, but heavies using KinCats are entirely too fast. Heavies should be moving at 6.2 m/sec at the very most, unless Minmitar.

So sentinels should only be defensive but scouts don't have to scout just slay I get it.

So you think having 1200 ehp, moving at 7.3 m/sec, with the highest DPS weapon in the game that even serves as minor AV, as well as damage resistance is balanced?
Okay.

The balance is even Stevie wonder could see them on radar. That setup you speak of sucks. Two cardiacs are far more useful.

Sprinting at 7.3m/s, the base move speed doesn't change so walking and strafing are just as slow as always.

I run proto heavy nonstop as well as always being solo never on a leash & the only diff from my adv suit is one complex cardiac. No plates just reps. Freedom, 3 reps, damage mod & complex card. Extremely effective.

No.
Variety in a game like Dust is what makes it interesting. If a heavy want to speed tank let him. If a scout wants to brick tank let him. Stop trying to control what other players do.
Gun control is not about guns...it's about control.
The only way to ensure freedom is by having the means to defend it.

Fix that damn run glitch so speed tanking is actually viable. Doesn't matter if you can run at the speed of light if you can't run at all.

I agree... and, as people say... a good scout can take on a heavy... but a horrible heavy can take on almost any scout in a pub.
So... is this truly "balanced"? |

I'm going to let you think about this one for a while.
Come back and reply to this and let me know if you've figured out why your post is the dumbest one on the forums today.

Yeah heavys with kincats are not really known for their survivability. Just look at the minmatar heavy, its the biggest joke of a heavy suit in dust. It cant properly shield tank and it has the lowest base HP out of all 4 suits.

Keep them at range, by that I mean about half of their sprint range (30m) and their HMG range (about 50m). So basically right on the edge of assault rifle effective range. All of the other rifles fit that in their ranges comfortably. In other words, if you play Gallente like me, and you want to take down a heavy bring something other than your rifle. Shotguns work well if you know which way they're looking (precision enhancers in those useless high slots will help here) and so does the plasma cannon if you're superl33tkillacappacop like me. |

Yet again, people want to restrict players so that they can play carelessly or like some 90s action hero without being penalized. Continuing on that 90s comment, I find it funny when I watch a mercenary run in my direction, jump off a roof, and land in front of me blasting away with his weapon as if he just finished watching a John Woo flick or some high octane anime. I laugh, call him stupid and proceed to melt him with my HMG. I then suspect he will visit the forums and complain about heavies.
While Sentinels are defensive, they are also good point pushers. Hence the nickname "Bullet Sponge". We should not restrict them for customization and diversity is what keeps the game interesting. It provides challenges that you can meet head on. Like it or not, Dust 514 is more a thinking man's FPS.
I disagree with most of the heavy complaints. And I have had my fair share of run in with heavies in matches that were a pain in the ass. Yet, I continue the fight and try a different tactic. The worst victory is one that came at the hand of changes done by the developers. The best victory is knowing you outsmarted an opponent who felt the suit made him invincible.
