For the most part I try to balance my fittings around what I intend to do with that particular suit... Not too much tank, not too much regen, not too much ewar, not too much damage output etc... Is it even worth trying to do a bit of everything or should you just all out spam whatever the suit is best designed for??

With a few exceptions, I try to balance everything as well.
I really don't understand people who try to push more out of a fit's existing strengths. My minmatar scouts are fast enough without kincats (faster hacking is always better, though) My amarr scouts have enough stamina without cardiac regs My caldari scouts scan well enough without precision enhancers and range amps My heavies have enough tank without shield extenders and armor plates
Another thing about amarr scouts- I like them because they're well-balanced. Yeah, gallente scouts can brick tank. However, they have to compromise their slots to do that. Amarr scouts can stay moderately tanky while also fitting codebreakers, kincats, and etc.

Well bro.
The pro's in my opinion is that you will be able to do everything decently and next to skill a balanced suit works well.
The con is, you will have less tank than tanked suits, less regen than regen suits, less damage output than damage fits, and E-war specialized will always know where you are while you dont.
My advise would be to choose 2, and go heavy with them.
Say Damage and tank? Or Tank and Dampening? (like the Ak.0 im trying to do) Damage and dampening? Or Ewar and speed?
etc...
The best Damage mod is a HEADSHOT....

Lol. Heavies that don't HP tank are terrible.
Amarr are going to be OP in hotfix charlie so you're going to want 2 precisions, a couple range amps and the rest should probably be biotics or ferroscale and reps.
CCP, I thought I was going to start liking you again. I really did. Then you announced this event.

Heavies with the HMG are specialists and when they are playing ambush predators they are scary effective. |

That's the beauty of the shield/armor core skills and the weapon proficiency skills. The more you have, the less you have to sacrifice.

I agree and that is the main problem with the FoTM chasers QQing about everything.
They waste SP on what ever is the FoTM and forgo the needed core and fitting skills, then whine and cry that they can't fit everything they want or that somthing needs to be nerfed or buffed.
Before anyone should ever try the FoTM they should make sure that they have all 4 core skills maxed out as well as cpu/pg skills maxed out. |

Well, it's better to build a team from specialized people than from generalists.
A well built team will make sure that its specialized people will be where they need to be in the right numbers, taking full advantage of their specific power.
Generalists still have a place as a general support unit, the unit that responds to most requests for assist.
They are also necessary in pub matches because blueberries.

I always try to do what has been said to not work or is not the "right way" to do it.
I can see that the square peg fits in the square hole, but I want to make the circular peg fit through - even if it means breaking everything.
