Which skill was it and why?"
Did you really need to have a proto dropsuit? Did you feel it was more important to have a high-power weapon rather than the top-end suit? Did you go for survivability and max your armour plating first? Or were you planning ahead from the start and max something in your Core skills?
Since I started as a heavy, Caldari, the first thing I got to level 5 was basic Shield Upgrades to maximise the shields I'd get without the actual extenders. Armour soon followed. After that it was Forge Guns (I hate tanks with a passion) and only the HMG has made it to level 5 after this. Those are actually my only upgrades at level 5, but I am a fairly new player.
I assume there are some people here who have excessive amounts of SP and have maxed quite a few skills/dropsuits. Can you remember your first skill to level 5? |

Gallente Assault and Armor Reps, after the respec around 1.0. Turns out Shotty Assault was no longer going to be viable. I almost instantly regretted it.

First weapon to proto was ScP, shortly thereafter.

Aide from modules (which I don't remember), Amarr logi was the first thing I got to prototype in Uprising 1.0. I actually never unlocked prototype anything in the beta except maybe some modules. Beautiful model, unique logi with sidearm, it had a repair bonuses back then, and I enjoyed the flexibility of multiple, equipment slots.

Bee-lined straight to sniper rifles, as this was the first FPS that I've ever played and was tired of getting slaughtered in my militia assault suit. It kept my deaths low and let me make ISK before expanding into a proper assault role (which I still suck at) before branching into scouts and, after the suit SP refund, heavies.

Go for an ADV role specific suit first..
An ADV Sentinel, Scout, Logi, Assault, Commando.
Then:
STD weapon skills CPU/PG to lvl 3. Shield/Armor to lvl 3, Armor plates to lvl 3, Armor repair to lvl 1, Shield extenders lvl 1. CPU/PG to lvl 4. ADV Weapon skills. Weapons upgrades lvl 1( The damage mod skill).
Then depending on if your a scout your gonna need lvl 3 in passive scanning and dampening skills and possibly cloaking skills.
If your a Logi your gonna need lvl 3 in Uplinks and Nanocircuitry and at least lvl 1 in repair tool. The Proto-type for more slots and fitting potential.
If your a Heavy, your gonna wanna focus on Armor plates and and save save save for your Lvl 5 sentinel, Not because of the proto suit persay. But because of the Damage resistance bonuses from the Sentinel suit applying to even the STD.
Through experience building over 8 toons in different roles through my time playing DUST 514, i find getting CPU and PG core skills to level 5 isn't worth the 777k SP until your looking for that little extra on your Proto-type fitting. Atleast until your armor, shield, Biotics, suit and gun are around proto level then go for that 1.5m Skill points in level 5 CPU and PG. |

My first contact with dust. I skilled turrets operation because i tought they are reqiured to use instalations :). Funny times.
After that, when i become more inteligent in this game.
Shield > shield extender > plasma rifle (AR) > cal assault (ADV + adv logi) > Swarms > core skills (i realized that i needed more pg/cpu)

i went hacking first, just because its so great being able to hack an objective before the raspberrys could get to the point and /pg skills and stop me. Then i went with eHP skills and eWAR skills, all the while slowly getting my cpu/pg and drop suit skills.
Correction I got my shotgun to operations 5 and profi 5 first, then went hacking and so forth.
as of now i have proto min scout, heavy suits. all drop suit core skills at 5, armor plates and reps at 5. AR, shotty, sniper, laser, smg, forge and hmg at 5 and a bunch of other stuff i can't remember off hand
