This post is based on this thread but it got jumbled up with other ideas and features (a common mistake of mine ).
Legion needs good and interesting missions, as well as a good EVE link... So why not combine the two?
The following scenario are based on (my understanding of) the current orbital bombardment mechanic in Dust, whereupon a certain action in one game triggers a reaction in the other. All in-game specific features, such as animations, sounds, maps and gameplay is isolated in each game, and it's just the event triggers which is shared between the two.
Mission example: Background A security agent (in EVE) have a mission to retrieve some stolen documents from a rouge operative, which is hiding on his base located in somewhere in dead space. The base is heavily fortified both with ships outside and security drones on the inside.
Accepting Mission 1) The mission is initially accepted by the EVE player using the existing EVE GUI, which triggers the mission as "available" in Legion. There should be a way of selecting if the merc "squad" should be locked (playing with friends) or open to everyone.
2) EVE player then continues to load a mobile CRU into his cargo-hold (new EVE item).
3) Accepting the mission (in Legion) will load you into a "loading room" similar to the warbarge, but much smaller. (This room is actually part of the final station map, but the door is initially "locked")
4) A custom squad channel is created where the mercs (and EVE player) can interact during the travel to the destination (they can also spawn-in during the travel). In this example max 6 mercs can join, which are automatically regarded as a squad.
Mission Locking 1) When the EVE player reaches the jump gate he needs to decide if enough mercs have joined, since when he jumps to dead space the mission will be locked in Legion.
Combat 1) After jumping the EVE player will be engaged by the enemy, and his first objective is to eject the CRU within X km from the base (it will refuse to eject beyond that point).
2) Ejecting the CRU will remove it from space (lore: it will "dock") which will also trigger the door in the loading area to be opened and initiate the fight for the mercs (preferably with a bit of camera shaking, sparks etc. to amplify the immersion)
3) Mercs objective are to infiltrate the base and obtain the stolen documents, but will meet heavy resistance from security drones. There are optional terminals that can be hacked by the mercs to help the EVE player (example: hacking a terminal trigger the turrets targeting the ship to be disabled).
5) The EVE player (while engaged by NPC ships) can also optionally destroy objectives in space (i.e a power relay or similar), which triggers an effect in Legion. (Example: opens a door making a shortcut to the objective)
(If the EVE player is destroyed or the clones run out, their individual mission will fail. Both EVE player and Mercs have individual goals along with a common goal)
Mission Completion 1) When the mercs have obtained the documents, they will extract the same way they came (to the "loading start point") and switch a trigger which will spawn the CRU in space again (lore: "eject" into space)
2) The mCRU is picked up by the EVE player, and returned to base for which the mission is completed. (For the mercs, the mission was completed when they triggered the "ejection" of the CRU).
The example mission above would promote cross play between EVE and Legion, but not make the two games fully dependent on each other, since there is nothing that forces anybody to accept the missions. The results though will be very similar to the EVE Forever video shown during Fanfest. |
