I think im going to start using the Assault Rifle with my heavy, and want to upgrade my dropsuit commands skills, but dont know what suit is for the assault rifle? minmatar is projectile and explosive, but the assault rifle is plasma? none of the suit descriptions said plasma :/
Side question, does race matter for gear? |

You'll have a synergy if you use the AR with either the Gallente Commando or Assault suits, as it counts as a Hybrid-Plasma (As opposed to Hybrid Rail).
Caldari and to a lesser extend Minnie Sentinels will also have a resistance against you.

Ok the AR is Gal Assault or Gal Command if you want the racial bonus. Second if you want to run a fat man suit run a Galmando because when you run a light weapon on a heavy it says I am a scrub if you run it on a commando it says I am bullet sponge.

Also if you're this new, be VERY aware that the assault rifle is the shortest ranged of all the "rifles" but with the most damage output. Pick your engagements accordingly. next in range is Combat rifle, then Scrambler, Then Rail.

RIght now im sitting here looking at heavy suits, but I see Sentinel Basic Commando, and am at a loss. Is there a way to filter stuff, because there is a lot of stuff. |

I was using a rail gun, but I liked being able to shoot right away, more ammo and rpm. (think it has more ammo) |

Figured out the commando sentinel and basic I guess, but looking at commando suits for the Caldari, they all seem to be junk vs the militia caldari heavy? Only way I see getting any use out of these suits is when I skill up the commands, for that suit? That sounds like something I will be doing later in the game? after I max out say dropsuit commands and probably weapon of choice?
Edit: any they damn expensive. Edit again: I may be gonig back to rail gun, not so sure but it looks like sentinel is the kind of suit I want, so much for the weapon bonus. Its really hard to compare stuff :/
Calvin B what is this about racial bonus, I never heard of em on this game? I also wonder if other races get different weapons as Ive been killed by a sniper that I cant find in my shop? |

Here's the deal.
Basic suits are only worth using until you specialize into a specialty suit, of which there are two below:
Commando: These carry two light weapon slots. They do not have a grenade slot. They have bonuses for specific types of weapons and as such you should build your suit accordingly. They can soak a decent amount of damage but can't move as fast as most suits. The role is essentially if you like a specific type of weapon and want to do much more damage then normal with said suit.
Sentinel: These carry a heavy weapon slot and a sidearm slot. They do not have an equipment slot. They are the slowest of the suits, and the high HP is partially negated by your inability to dodge most shots. In the open they die rather easily, and take a while to get to new places. The whole point of a Sentinel is for the damage absorption bonuses which allow you to take a great deal of abuse. Your sensors will make you blind to anything not a heavy, but your heavy weapon slots allows you to make use of HMGs and Forge Guns.
You could put a light weapon on a Sentinel, but I don't really recommend it as light weapons are much more deadly on faster suits who can easily take cover and find good firing spots, or on commandos who have a large damage bonus and better speed then Sentinels.
In a nutshell: Commando is the ONLY suit in the game with TWO light weapon slots, Sentinels are the only suits (besides basic heavies) who can carry a HEAVY weapon slot, and have the highest HP due to the resistance bonuses.

Gallente assault and gallente commando have bonuses towards hybrid-plasma/blaster weapons, this includes assault rifle, shotgun, and plasma cannon. Gallente commando gives a damage bonus, Gallente assault gives a crappy dispersion bonus, but that is likely to be changed to something else soonish.

Here's the best suits for the Assault Rifle, in order from most useful to least:
- Gallente Commando
- Any Logistics suit
- Secondary light weapon for other commandos
- Scouts
- Gallente Assault*
*Right now the Gallente Assault bonus, while it is geared toward Assault Rifles, is terrible. But wait until they buff the Assault class to make your decision because the buff is coming soonTM.
You know the scary thing about em? They don't need power... lights, heat, nothing. That's their advantage.

The best advice you can get is to push triangle to read the stats in game and make up your own choice.
Nothing is 'the best' because you can setup your suit how you want.
Gal commando - damage buff
Gal assault - ROF buff
Those two are definitely geared for the assault rifle.
Any scout - good with any weapon really
Any logi - highly customisable
Its all up to you. Press triangle and see what fits your style but pay attention to other bonuses.
Be vigilant!, for there are those that remove the teabag BEFORE adding milk!.

It's not that funny. This game is exceptionally badly designed for new players. There is almost no proper game information, if you get thrown into a game you have no clue what is going on, the descriptions on the weapons and suits are filled with random lore drivel which is, while useful to the Universe and it's lore, very unhelpful if you are trying to find out what fits where and does exactly what. I have been lucky to have a friend crash at my place for a while who also played and showed me exactly how the game works but even then I was sometimes at a loss. The fact that things like weapon range aren't even mentioned in the weapon description where it shows damage and RoF is just silly. You have to wait for the original weapon description to fully scroll past your eyes to guess how much the range would then be. Short to medium range equals... what? As a new player this is just plain confusing. No to mention the horrible way the market is setup, it's really, really confusing if you're just starting out. |

Yesterday I got so bored I ran my fearcrop on my caldari proto sentinel, it was a bad fit really. Kept running out of ammo, but versus ANYTHING 1v1 it was unstoppable. I had 2 damage mods 2 shield energizers, and damn it was a powerful suit, but when it came to movement around the map or ammo I was screwed.

Instead of dishing out unhelpful comments like that, you can also try to help a new player out. It's not like this game has a huge player base that we can afford to lose more players.. Dumbass
At OP I started out with a medium frame, medium frame not role specific because you still have a buffer of skillpoints (basic Caldari in my case). I would take a Galente medium if you're dead set on a assault rifle and use the remaining skillpoints for my dropsuit upgrades, you can also try out a number of weapons without having to skill into them by buying them from the store. You go to store and the militia gear tab, than weaponry.
If you decide to go with Galante upgrade your armor upgrades first aswell als your armor plates and armor repairs. Typically you want to have your dropsuits armor, armor plates and armor repair to lvl 3 for the Galente because galente are armour based. If you decide to go for a rolespecific suit take the Galente assault. BUT make sure you get your dropsuit upgrades in the armor tab to 1 so you reduce the cpu and pg from the militia modules you're prob. using now. And fit basic ones.
If you have any questions please post them is this thread so we can help you out, or ask me in game. Not all Dust players are unhelpful idiots. |
