Except for heavy suits, your suit APPEARS smaller even though your hitbox remains the same. I noticed when female suits were first implemented that it messed with my head a bit when aiming at them. Obviously this is an artificial advantage, but a lot of people do overcompensate when aiming at the thinner female suits, causing them to waste ammo and precious DPS during a firefight.
