Multiple times ive had a tank on the ropes where one shot from my proto forge will finish the tank(less than a third on armor) and with the tank in the crosshairs when i shoot i get the noise of the shot and my charge releases but i have no reduction in ammo and my shot causes no dmg. This has happened too many times to be a coincidence

Is this constantly or just a recent thing? It could be lag, or it could be the game ******* up.. again. I've not noticed it, but I'm not using my Ishys atm, Kaalas instead. If you're firing an assault, holding it down for a little longer after it has fired, and if it's a regular/breach, hold the charge a little longer than usual. Like I said, either lag or skill **** up.

It's some kind of bug/lag, it used to happen to me all the time. The same thing happens with large rail turrets.
Can't say I'm all that surprised.
I've been drinking and may be drunk.... probably like most dust players.

My personal suspicion is that latency variations during charge cause the charge meter status to diverge between the client and server which makes them disagree on whether the gun is actually ready to fire or not.
The client will always render a fired shot regardless of the server, but it's the server that has to calculate the projectile and hit damage which gives the impression of blank of "phantom" shots.
A band aid fix for this would be to introduce some lenience to the process I.e. either the server accepts a 95% charge up as valid or the client makes the weapon charge 105% before sending the firing packet.
You can take a benign object, -you can take a cheeseburger and deconstruct it to its source...

I doubt the lag spike. Happen last time over 3 shots while tanks was running away

i have shot an ads while it was at half armor, it spun the ship twenty degrees but did not remove any armor.

Thats has my plan, but my large rail dont worked...
