Anyways, if you want to increase the active player base than implementing these two ideas would really help.
1) somewhere in the "tutorial" where you first enter a battle/ do your first fitting/ level up your first skill, mention something about the forums! In big letters!
"BE PART OF THE DUST COMMUNITY! JOIN THE FORUMS! MAKE FRIENDS! RECRUIT ALLIES! FIND YOUR RIVALS! etc.
2) get some good moderators on the forums so that beginners don't get torn apart by asking a newbie question. And close posts asap that quickly become nothing more than two people arguing. That way we get a "nicer" forum community. (^_^ ) this has been one of the most noob friendly communities i've encountered. and i dont say this as a sarcastic troll this time. if you dont believe me check out GTAO forums it's 12 and 13 year olds insulting each other and not in any kind of creative way. as far as dust goes we're hella cool to new players yea we might add a sarcastic bite to some noob complaining or calling nerf but if he just wants to learn the game and can communicate he gets bombarded by insightful replies in a couple of hours
Yeah but ironically in grand theft auto the other guys aren't running around with 3 times the ehp that will take you a literal Months/Years/skill cap amount of time to catch up to them. Not saying the community is as toxic as many, it's definitely not but it's also not much for good sportsmanship. We don't have good matchmaking but we could self regulate. IE, don't pull out adv/proto on the newberries but man children have to spam 200k loadouts at the newberries chasing them off from the game. But hey, at least they feel welcome on the forums!! |

I like the gameplay, yes. Now, I'll readily admit this is the first FPS MMO I've ever played, so I may be a little biased.
However, the main reason for me still playing it is the people I've met. I enjoy running around with a bunch of people who are smart-asses just like me, having fun and joking around. I KNOW I'm not the best player in the game. But I do my best to have the most FUN in the game. I like getting into a squad that works together, plans, and coordinates, but could care less about whether we "WIN" or not. I have found enough like minded souls in game to keep me coming back. And they are what will keep me playing as long as they are still here. When the people I like to run with do finally quit or move on, I will probably do the same.

Killar-12 wrote:Lets see, the Gameplay... no, The dev's speed... no, The Community... I think we might have snagged the big fish right there, seriously the community is what makes this game CCP, the community is what makes EVE, EVE and DUST are People games, and sometimes those people do things in spaceships or dropsuits, but it's the Meta that's why EVE is like it is that's why DUST is as it is.
If you ignore what makes people like it you're going to have terrible retention, get people in the community and interacting and you will get people to stay and enjoy the game, or just keep doing petty little things, throw newbs in a chat channel or two if possible for them to get help and for them to get recruited, If you want a player to stay you need to make them want to stay, teach people how to interact and you will get more bang for your buck than if you teach people how to play
People who Interact are those who can actually figure out how to alter existing mechanics to innovate and create solutions to unique problems for example the lack of a 1v1 option Thunderdome was created in response, for the lack of a Portuguese section a person went out of their way and translated, for the lack of a ISK transfer people set up their own, the countless lotteries, Jadek's Nuttiness with Xer but many of these sort of things would not be availible if not for tools provided, PC, ISK transferring, Corp Taxes but think what could be done with more things even though I doubt we would get much even the littlest bit counts.
Still this does not lessen the need for balancing passes nor basic content that has not yet been provided, for that is why what community that was created has now been put into it's current state of disrepair that we are currently in, and will continue to do so, but you do need to remeber this if Legion is greenlit, because if you repeat these same mistakes, you will get the same results no matter what platform it is on.
Still I doubt this will make it through anyone's thick head and will be ignored by devs as people will always hear selectively. So GD, go nuts... Scrub... I'm a solo militia with decent kdr no SP used |

I too am a lonewolf and am here for the variety of action and the feeling that Dust invokes. The social aspects of video games is not a priority to me. If the gameplay itself weren't fun, I wouldn't be here. Dust has its problems, but I still enjoy it most of the time.
A corp for lonewolves where squadding and comms are optional, but exceptional team play is expected.

the reason i quit GTAO because the god awful matchmaking for death/teamdeath match. there is no global math making meaning you can sit there for an hour waiting for a deathmatch to que up. it's all local match making the most fail crap ever. and seriously you call those goons competitive when they all boost cash and spam tanks that are much worse than dust?

You'll thank me.
Seriously.
K/D(r) WP/D(r) matchmaking fixes the whole game. Period.

Eh, 1943 is just 1942 with updated graphics and Call of dutified mechanics. That's part of the problem in the variety, battlefield became call of duty with vehicles. There were a lot of fps game styles back in 02-04 but with the popularity and market share that Call of duty styled games brings 90% of it was homogenized or chased out of market... like Dust. Well like in the case of a facebook game who can resist the priority of a game, to make money. |

It's not the gameplay. It's not the level of gameplay. It's not the maps. It's not the modes. It's not "the (laughable) connection" to Eve. It's not the customization. It's not the persistence we were sold for so many months.
It's the handful of people here that are in our same predicament. Too cheap to buy a next generation console. Too smart to buy the first edition next generation console. Typical next generation, first year, console woes with the awful launch libraries, hardware issues, etc. Life/Wife won't let you budget a new console. The few people that I've met and been able to tolerate are still here. People who are just happier when they're complaining have a ******* great time here.
Nobody is here because Dust is awesome and we want to support CCP. We're here because no good man gets left behind.

Soraya Xel wrote:There is a point here, that I think covers both DUST and EVE. CCP has focused on making EVE a better spaceship game, and DUST a better shooting game. But EVE is a bad spaceship game and DUST is a bad shooting game. But what they both are, are good people games. They let people be who they would be in a magnified sense without laws. They let us play politician, soldier, and thief. Renegade and pirate.
CCP needs to stop focusing on making spaceship and shooting games, and focus on making people games. That's what they're the best at.

That said, the reason I'm still around are because of (a) my friends and corpmates, and (b) the competitive gameplay that PC allows.
The community is only a bit above average. I don't think it's much different from most FPS games I've played over the years, but the detailed nature of the game does cater to people of a bit higher intelligence than the average lobby shooter....but, in the end, the community at large has little to do with my enjoyment of this game. So on this point I disagree with the OP. Fair point, put in the big hoopla about balancing and content being important at the end.
Content? Point taken.
Balance? I've yet to play a really well balanced FPS, particularly after a year or two. Have you?
