Yes SoE Forgot to pay their domain bill..For 7 weeks.... basically leaving everyone of their websites and games offline today and they have a few.
Article on what happened.
This is a pretty big game developer.. And they still have issues like this.
CCP may have some problems here and there... But at least when their net goes down it's to hackers or DNS attacks. |

Oh how hilarious would it have been had someone nicked the domain and parked some Viagra spam site there instead.
Domains are usually purchased for upwards of a year. The only chance to get it back would've been a lawsuit.
Edit: I was just informed that's exactly what happened.

CCP is actually one of the best game developers I know of.
Bioware can't make an MMO with longevity, and when EA tried to help, they sunk it with overpriced expansions.
Gaijin can make a damn good flight simulator, but they **** up their own multiplayer (and somewhat single player) with bias towards the US and Russia.

All actuality though American planes are on another level when compared to the rest of the worlds.

Every competent domain registrar like GoDaddy or whatever always purchases your domain name, even if you let it expire. However, you'll have to pay more to get it back at that point. They usually give you several weeks of exclusive ability to buy back your domain, before putting it up for auction.
It's pretty likely they just had to pay their registrar higher fees and deal with the paperwork and stuff.

Yah their domain was taken over for like 20 hours by a WoW and Everquest currency seller.
It was pretty funny. |
