Okay, I feel like I worded out this thread here wrong.
I am not asking for a nerf on ADSs like most of you think. And I am an ADS pilot. One of the very first. The only reason I am not known as one is because my PS3 broke down for a few months. And after it got fixed, my TV broke down for another few months. I only recently started playing again on january but didnt had much time because of college. And I pretty much doubt that I'll become a known ADS pilot during the summer.
But to the point. My biggest concern isn't how skill full the ADS pilot is. Because I know how hard flying one is. But my biggest concern is that the tactic of using the Afterburner as a quick boost to reach the flight ceiling for total safety and where no one can reach you.
Now I wouldn't mind this tactic if it wasn't for the Afterburner's Cooldown was 10 seconds throughout all tiers. As soon as you get up there you are safe. And while you wait for your HP to return or as you come back down, the module is ready for use again. Meaning that the moment the pilot comes down, they can go back up as fast and pretty much be unkillable for the whole match.
Now if it was a skillfull pilot using maneuvers and tricks to dodge AV then I wouldn't complain. But this Afterburner to Ceiling tactic is cowardly and noobish.
Only 2 possible counters to this: Increase the Afterburner cool down time in order for it not to be spammed for safety.
Lower the flight ceiling to MCC level or a little bit higher.
Non of this changes affect how well you fly, how much HP your ADS can have or the maneuvering of it.
If you are a scout and you only use EWAR then you have my salutes o7

I don't see that your solution solves anything, if the pilots go to flight ceiling they are totally ineffective, picking some arbitrary amount of time for the afterburner cooldown doesn't change the dynamics of an AV engagement, it only changes the time frames. What needs to change, if anything, is that the TTK between a Python and and an AV'er needs to be brought into alignment. Right now an ADS pilot can take 3 or 4 attempts at killing an AV'er and still have enough cushion to always escape due to the long TTK of the ADS and short TTK of an AV'er. Buffing AV is a bad idea at this point, reducing the effectivenss of ADS weaponry against infantry might be a solution. Frankly though I would be scared to make any changes for fear of upsetting the balance we have now. Lets see the effect cheaper ADS have on how many we see and if it is pilots or the ADS itself that is the issue. While the numbers seem to support the idea that it is the ADS, I have seen players that could convince me the Scrambler Pistol was OP. If all I saw was them playing it, and not other people who couldn't use it, I might think it was too powerful too.
Because, that's why.

Lowering the ceiling to MCC level would just put us even more vulnerable to MCC missiles. (1 hit death) this has to be higher than the MCC.
Increasing the cooldown for the afterburners would be the best option. I agree with you on that one completely.

Then make it lower then the mcc, tis would also make it so that snipers couldn't get to the top of the towers in certain maps that have unreachable towers except by dropship.

why aren't ppl asking for a nerf on things things sheesh! you cry about tanks but refuse to bat an eyelid over a ship flying above you with rapid firing turrets, out of range from most of the AV, and can zoom far out of reach of the rest, whereas a tank can be hit by everything.

Some maps have the MCC pretty low already and lowering it would prove no point for dropships. Yes, it would solve a few solution of snipers and people spamming uplinks on top of structures but then you're just imagining a world without dropships and uplinks on ground level only.

crazy hipocrites I feel like a dropship is more vulnerable than a tank. Standard and MLT dropships are very easy to take down and we''re already discussing increasing the cooldown to afterburners on Assault Dropships. Believe it or not dropships are easier to take down, in my opinion of course.

There is no point in nerfing the AB and reducing the ceiling as the ADS in general gets shot down too damn quickly by the countless AVers.
Try playing a match where there is more than 1 guy shooting missiles at you by the supply depot or a commando running around making life hell. I guarantee you will be shot down very quickly as ADS is very weak to AV right now.

Increasing the Afterburner modules cooldown time isn't going to improve anything. If anything It will cause more issues that you are not taking into consideration. A dropship can not see who is an AV and who is not. Be it an Python or Incubus flyer, every player looks all the same from high altitudes. Also what about swarms? AV is incredibly effective against dropships with only 3 highs and 1 low for the python and 1 high and 3 lows for the incubus. Another thing is how AV players engage dropship pilots. Most dropship pilots be it the old veteran or new one, are very familiar with situational awareness against AV. The afterburner in its current state allows me to continue engaging AV without being a sitting target in the middle of the air, which means you do not have cover, or have a fighting chance to find somewhere to escape. One last thing to take in consideration is the nature of how the arial vehicle works too. Being able to climb to high altitudes and drop to lower altitudes is something very important. Without the ceiling as is, I doubt arial vehicles could really engage each other or have a meaningful experience with such conditions.

I don't care if your an ADS pilot. If you call a nerfing to something that laughably easy to kill already then your a bad pilot.

Pointless even responding to these kinda threads, CCP sees the stats involved with ADS, how much they kill and how often they die, AVers only take their data from the ones that got away, its very easy to form the opinion that something is OP and unkillable when they don't die every single time you engage them.
They lowered the flight ceiling before, it just made the game worse didn't improve anything, just made it so dropships would whack into an invisible barrier in the sky, ADS' ability to skirmish doesn't need to be fixed good AVers can and do destroy them all the time, bad ones contribute to suppression but whine cause they don't get the money shot with militia gear.
ADS that don't die are usually playing very conservatively, they don't contribute much to the match and I can't personally see how they enjoy the experience, when prices are lowered you will probably see a lot more ADS die as the pilots feel enabled to take more risks.
