Only played a short while a while back, have around 1000 kills and haven't played since 9 months ago so suggestions as to what to level up would be nice.
I think I'm a Minmatar and I have around 8.5 Million free skill points to spend since I haven't played for ages.
I will only bother listing the skills I have upgraded the most since the last time I played:
Assault Rifle Operation - Level 5 Assault Rifle Sharpshooter - Level 2 Assault Rifle Ammo - Level 2 Laser Rifle Operation - Level 2 Light Weapon Operation - Level 3 Mass Driver Operation - Level 5 Mass Driver Proficiency - Level 2 Weaponry - Level 3 Swarm Launcher Operation - Level 2 Dropsuit Upgrades - Level 2 Shield Extension - Level 2
The rest I have aren't really relevant since I only put enough skill points into them for Level 1. Any help as to what I should spend the 8.5 Million points on based on the skills and race I already have would be great, thanks. |

shield upgrades to 4, armor upgrades to 4, shield extension to 5, electronics to 4, engineering to 4, core upgrades to 4, nanocircuitry to 3, biotics to 5, kinetic catalysers to 5 and whatever dropsuit you want to five. (I recommend minmatar commando to 5 and minmatar heavy to 3) |

you can also get what ever equipment you want. I recommend getting nanocircuitry to 3 if you like using mass drivers and swarm launchers.
Once you get these skills I suggest you use a minmatar commando with complex shield extenders in the high slots, and complex kinetic catalysers in the low slots. Use a mass driver and assault rifle or swarm launcher in your weapon slots and a nanohive in your equipment slot.
Sounds like some good suggestions considering I have basically put nothing into armor or armor upgrades. Another question since you suggested I keep going with swarm launcher upgrades. I remember frequently trying to use them but a large portion of the time even if I locked onto some vehicles it would either do no damage on impact or it would miss even with a lock, was I doing something wrong or did I just need to upgrade it more?
Also, are there any worthwhile skills I could take to either avoid snipers or help me find them? They are really irritating and often enough would one shot me when I'd go for a flag.

The only time your swarms should miss is if you are shooting a dropship which can fly away some times. The vehicles also might be repairing very quickly which makes it seem as though you are doing no damage. Just try getting better swarm launchers and getting closer to your target.
To avoid snipers just stick to cover and use shield extenders and armor plates so you dont get killed in one shot. You could also get a piece of equipment called the active scanner that might detect them if they are close enough. Unforrtunatley they are usually too far away for this to work. |

Alright thanks for the tips, I've upgraded everything you've told me to so far.
I bought the Commando mk.0, 2 complex shield extenders, 2 complex kinetic catalyzers. Not sure if I bought the wrong suit or not but it's impossible for me to stick a top of the line mass driver and assault rifle because the PG is too low on the suit, it's 55 so I guess I'll have use some of the crappier guns for the time being or remove at least one catalyzer from the low slot, might just use some kind of a PG upgrade, I should be set, thanks a lot. |

Hacking to 3 only shaves of 1.5 seconds off a hack which is kind of useless unless he plans on doing planetary conquest. Dampening, precision, and range amps are also only really useful on scouts. I agree that rechargers and repairers are useful but only if he doesnt use the minmatar commando. Getting armor and shield upgrades to lvl 5 is unecessary as it will only let you survive one or two bullets more than at lvl 4 |

Trust me the scanning stuff is very useful so is the hacking for any suit you use. I know I use a Commando.

I honestly don't get how you guys play this game, I'm great at FPS games but after a couple of games of Dust I already realize why I stopped playing. Investing massive skill points into something like the mass driver but a machine gun out damages me and kills me despite the opponent having 400 less health, it's ridiculous. My suits cost 150k each but you only make a few 100k per mission, the ISK runs out quick lol. |

Dampening is very useful against your own class. It always pays to have an awareness edge over your peers. It's most obvious with the Cal/Gal scouts but it equally applies to mediums and heavies.
Unless you and your opponent are dueling head to head in which case don't bother with dampening or precision. If you like tacnet and flanking then don't neglect a couple of levels in each.

Mass driver is a great anti scout weapon and it does have a greater range then a HMG.
But with a mass driver I get as many assists as kills. They are a support and suppression weapon.
You migh want to upgrade to a plasma cannon for sheer stopping power.

It's probably the most useless grenade launcher I've used in any game. Earlier I saw a guy in a heavy suit shooting at a teammate with his back at me, he had 30% health left, his shields were gone, he was strafing back and forth, I shot the best mass driver available 4 times right alongside his legs, 4 hits to kill him off splash damage at 30% is ridiculous
I may as well be running around with a sniper rifle in close combat since the only time the mass driver does any real damage is from a direct impact. I have already lost 5 million ISK after dying so much, seems pretty pointless. Will probably quit and move on by tomorrow. |

Perfect. I have ADV commando and I put my proficiency 1 swarmers on it and wreck havoc with tanks. Most DS get away from me, but I drive them away from their objective repeatedly and the +75 per damage I get really bumps up. I got commando to include a light sidearm to protect against flanking infantry. Drop a nanohive down on you and let the swarms commence. Always strafe and to avoid tank and sniper fire. Locking is easy to do while strafing.

What level is your mass driver. Mass Drivers are actually great in the right situations. They're not meant for every fight however. The best use you can get out of that sucker is rounding corners and obstacles with your lob fire. Both the MD and the SCR have been the best for taking down scouts for me. However, if its not your cup of tea, move on to the next weapon. Exo is the level to really test it out (ADV). If you still find its useless in your hands (like the laser rifle for me) abandon.

The mass driver takes some practice to use well because of its arc and projectile speed. Its designed to be used in group v roup engagements and not one v ones. It really shines when you have high ground and are shooting down on opponents. If you really dnt like it you could always use the assualt rifle which is a a more conventional weapon. |
