I get my 35k isk gorgon, I get my MLT Cal Heavy (for the shields), I fly straight to the red where the sniper is at and destroy him/her. I try to get and and sometimes I just don't but I don't care, it was worth it. You can even get thale users.
In addition, I have gotten decent at "road killing" with the drop ship to include a number of people at the same time. There is aways the DS bomb where you land right in a group of them but you put a bunch of RE's on it. You can either detonate or have some idiot that fires at your ship blow everyone around you up. It's great stuff.
All of that being said there are 3 plausible fixes to the redline.
1) Remove it. I don't like this because when you are stomping someone they need SOMETHING they can do that makes them viable in the match.
2) Increase the time to something very reasonable like 45 seconds. I like 2 full minutes but that could be quite greedy.
3) I just thought of this one but what if you didn't lose the item if you die in there. If I lose a 600k isk incubus getting a MCC Red sniper then I feel like the game is broken. If I get up there and take him/her out but die AND then I get to keep the fit and vehicle, it is worth staying that extra second or two to make sure I finish up that sniper.
Dedicated sniper here.
I sometimes use the redline but often don't because I'm hacking, using swarms against vehicles and dropping links/hives.
There are five things that make me feel fantastic.
The first is a warbarge stike aimed at me. This makes my day. It means I'm doing my job.
The second is someone doing what you describe. The reds waste a guy hunting me and waste a dropship that could be better used against CQC blues, tanks or blue dropships. It means I'm doing my job. Don't forget that tanks use the same redline and dropships have a redline which they can fly above, making it impossible to hit them.
The third is covering a NULL cannon so well that reds approaching or hacking it die before the hack starts or before the hack is complete. Usually my team has no idea that I've kept that NULL cannon firing at the red MCC for another two minutes. It means I'm doing my job.
The fourth is hatemail. It means I'm doing my job.
The fifth, and best, is sniping reds who are going after an outnumbered blue and saving his life. Usually, the blue has no idea I helped him. It means I'm doing my job.
You play your game and I'll play mine.
