Controlling all districts on a planet enables you to tittle the planet.

I'd get my Alliance to conquer a planet, and then name it "Socks IV".

I think vanity rewards are the way to go. I would make it so that there is one district everyone wants to hold, a few disticts slightly less desirable and on down the line. This leads to a tournament style of play and a way to claim "Best of Dust" without affecting all other players.
Because, that's why.

I'll totally endorse this idea if it were a non-permanent option that could be re-titled when a new occupant takes over. Like Stations in Eve Online.

@ Shad
Hey man, I have been super busy lately haven't even had time to think about gaming, let alone Dust lol. Furthermore, after the FF incident I am really not in such a helping mood for CCP. However, I am getting over that hump.
To extend on my OP, giving the players the ability to title planets adds a sense of ownership and reward (Even if it is pixels). When that reward becomes a reality, then the threat of it getting taken away also comes into existence. You're not just fighting for the sake of fighting.

I would fight for officer gear. Hold a planet get 10 officer weapons
Each system has one planet the largest one with the most districts and if you successfully take every district you get 10 weapons of that planet, type You can only receive them once per month?
Not sure how many officer weapons their are? Say 20?
Edit and if that is too hard to do. Why not increase salvage of other teams crap by the percentage of that planet owned
Payable to either side. So if a corp owns 100% of a planet any challenger if they win get a 100 of the loot salvage of the other team.
Encouraging corps to take on planet holders, as well as defenders an added bonus for the successful defense each time. |

Very good idea
To clarify; not the naming part (which I find a little silly ), but the notion there are some benefits to controlling the entire planet. It's called Planetary Conquest after all, not District Conquest...
Regardless of the rewards, if you scale it to the number of districts, planets with more districts will be more valued and fought over. To hold one of the big ones, you need a large corporation / alliance to keep it defended at all times. Smaller corporations would naturally seek themselves to smaller planets, which is more easily defended.
And while my brain is spinning; you could also sequence the battles so you have to take a "staging point" to start conquering the next (I.e you can't attack all at the same time). One could speculate that only one type of ground facility is available as staging point (for example Cargo Hub) , but you need to have a "set" of all three you make them "work". This would in turn mean that larger planets have more "staging points". You technically could lock a planet by not placing any cargo hubs on it, but then you won't get the rewards...
I am not sure how much of this could be done without a client update, but technically the interface / managing of planets do not change, only what you are allowed to do. Rewards we already know can be adjusted server side.
