I was here back in beta, on different characters. Back then, we didn't have any of the BS tactics you see nowadays. We all had our own laughs when we lost our Vk.0s and stuff. We were all tight knit. We knew each other. I miss going into the war barge and squading with a few blueberries. I had some of the best dust experiences back then. People respected each other in some hard-to-describe way. There was always little duels, and befriending red dots. Now I go into battle, reminiscing my beta days. Sadly, I have a hard time logging in because I miss the old days. I love this game too much to just leave it, but all I see nowadays are BS tactics. I try squad finder to maybe make some new friends, have some laughs, but none of them are even charismatic. I've been in so many corporations (check my corp history) on this character alone looking for some sort of community. I've played on all the servers, and none have that same old community sense. I miss the old DUST.

Mostly because when I got in you could have only got in by EVE and also invitation I think.
Sighs, back when your bluedots were people like Doug Ugly, Zitro or Bad furry

What you have to understand, is that this is mainly your nostalgia talking, back when dust was a very new and exciting experience. Most of us didn't care about the hard crashing, the irritating bugs, the massively op breach rifle, the occasional crippling lag, only being able to play on the weekend and a whole plethora of other serious issues with the game that we more or less ignored or laughed at because, hey! We are playing Dust 514! A game in beta with a fuckload of potential!
With the possible exception of Craterlake map, the game is a lot better than it was, however hardly anyone will be able to get around the nostalgia of the first time they played, it was all so exciting as we spoke about the possibilities, rumours about what they were working on, how it would effect new eden and more!
The sad truth is that Dust 514 fell very short of all the crazy possibilities that we decided to lump on it as early players.
TL:DR = Our experience of dust will probably never be as exciting as when we first found out we where in the closed beta, waiting for the weekend. And this does cloud our perception of the closed beta.

Missile Launchers in general made me hate things.
Fun Fact: I started this game as a Minmatar but as I played the game I saw the Blatant Favoritism for Caldari in this game and hated how easy mode everything Caldari was at that time. So I deleted my Character and renamed Jad Kirk the Sgt Kirk.
And thus, Freedom Was Born.

ah the good ol' days... crazy lamp posts ha!
when i first started playing i was too used to other FPS so figured a few shots would kill anyone. i was so confused when they turned around and killed me o.o
always used to come up against cubs on the enemy team too, our hmg fights were entertaining xD
the good blueberries that actually knew how to play the game, the idiot blues who wanted to see how many times they could die in a match. i swear the majority of the blues were better than those i squaded up with in my early days o.0
still say that chrome was the best though :)
If its not anime, its not real

I have been here since the 1st day of open beta... what do I think?
I think we were all noobs back then and just hadn't thought of all the, as you call them, BS tactics.
I think you have romanticized the old days, when really there was just as much QQ, and poor sportsmanship.
I think today, just like back over a year ago, friendships are still made and much fun is here to be had, but if you are constantly trying to compare now to then, you will miss out on most of it.... kind of like trying to compare a new girlfriend to an ex girlfriend.
I think the major difference of today compared to the early days is that we were all hopeful for an amazing future with an awesome game that has issues we were sure would be worked out.... now we know better , the game is canned, living on life support and the dream is dead....this has a huge psychological factor on the game dynamics and player attitude....
it reminds me of the time I told this girl I was dating that I didn't think I loved her anymore (I was young)... after she started to weep I tried to take it back, but the damage was done.... ccp basicly told us the same thing, and then tried to take it back (rattati) but the honeymoon is over, the game will never be complete, the vets leave in droves and the noobs don't commit...
its sad, dust could have been so much.... knowing that it will never be anything more than this is such a disappointment. |

You weren't actually in beta, because you're completely wrong.
"BS tactics"? We had to deal with legitimate bullshit tactics, like being sniped the instant we spawned in the redline. The beta community had more asshats than it does now "Befriending red dots" only happened when opposing snipers wanted to share a perch without fighting over it

So accurate. There are very, very few missed gaming opportunities that I have lamented over the past 30 years, but Dust 514 is definitely one. |

Closed or open beta? Did we ever play? (you might know me as just Forlorn if you are that old in game from before we had to rename our characters about 2 years ago). If we played together then, let's squad again.
