The Amarr Sentinel can be considered one of the most durable Sentinel's available to you.
With its bonuses applying a total of 15% resistance to Projectile weapons you should essentially be the "be all END ALL" of Sentinel Combat.
Is there specifically something that is killing you.
I would suggest taking a step back from combat, while you are a core combat suit you are short range, think of alternate ways to approach your enemy and delivery your HMG's payload up close.
Additionally stick close to Logistics units and your team. Lone Heavies are prime targets for Scouts and Long Ranged Commando's.
Otherwise consider stacking Armour Plating. Amarr Sentinels should be able to cap out around 1400 EHP rather easily.

Do so. Amarrian suits do well when tanked to the brim. In your case at Amarr Sentinel 5, with Lvl 5 in your Armour Plating and HMG skills you should essentially have the edge on every heavy in the game due to your reduction/ nullification of the Projectile damage bonus against armour.
I find in Sentinel Combat on my Amarr Templar Suit I have time to DPS down the lighter frames before moving on to the Heavy.
At the very least if you target the lighter frames you are likely to trade your suit for 1-2 enemies.
Other than that I find its all about positioning and strafing....oh and Damage Modules. Get some of those.

Even just having that skilled up will make your sentinal stronger, and it will apply to other suits you happen to use, even starter fits if you are banking some isk.

Dropsuit armor and dropsuit shield upgrades will help if you haven't maxed them out. Level 5 in both pushes the Amarr from 960 EHP to 1200EHP without fitting any additional modules. Combine that with enough levels in Sentinel for the resistances to stack up and you should be fairly robust.
Also, make sure you're positioned to make use of cover. Anyone under focused fire will go down quick, regardless of the amount of plate you fit. Never fight in the open unless you've got no other choice, and never be more than a sidestep from cover if you need to go on the offensive. The heavy hitboxes are massive, so you'll be taking a lot of dirt naps unless you can get out of the line of fire and get your shield regen started/allow your armor regen a chance to catch up.

Yep, get those core skills up. Also don't think because you're a fat suit with an hmg that you're supposed to stand still. Strafing is still something you should embrace in the right situations. Ensure you're using cover most of all and that you're not engaging in distance combat.

Core skills maxed plus you need the HMG proficiency at 5 or really close to it. And you might need a Gallente Sentinel. Totally your preference though. |

To add to everyone else, they're definitely steering you the right way just 1 thing that got missed. If you run solo a lot or you don't have a logi, add an armor rep mod or reactive plate or use a gallente suit, because for the most part, you are going to be target number one and one of the most effective ways for most suits to kill a heavy is to wear it down until it's dead and that's much harder to do if you can rep passively.

Ironically, the only time you should be 100% tanked out is when you will have a logi OR you will not be leaving a spot for any amount of time.
I run a STD sentinel as follows:
High Slot - Enhanced Heavy Damage mod
Low Slot - Enhanced Armor Rep Low Slot - Enhanced Armor plate OR Ferroscale (if I expect to be running around as you posted)
HMG Flaylock (to get rid of equipment without wasting a nade)
Flux nade
The flux nade is vital. I can't tell you how many times I cooked it and then tossed into a group so I could mow them down since there shields were down.
If you have reps then you save your speed. Personally, The A-Sentinal starts off with more than 1k HP. you just need reps and cover. The bonus damage resistance is pretty sick.
I choose not to nerf my speed because of RE's. I need to be fast enough to get away from where an RE was placed. Stacking armor plates makes you VERY Remote Explosive vulnerable.

No matter the sentenel or even the level of your equipment, the best advice that has been given is to stick with friends (or other blueberries). You are a slow moving behemoth with a giant target on your back. You can't turn invisible, you can't outrun anyone and you can't kill them all on your own.... (Sometimes you can). Sticking with a group splits enemies focus which will distract enemies from you and allow you to kill them for ignoring you. The (friends) can just be randoms, so long as they split the redberries focus.
Second.... You need a Gallente sentinel. (Just my strong preference) |

Above all else, stick with your teammates. you stand a better chance with 2 blueberries than you do alone. The rest of these tips are largely unorganized thoughts.
-lvl 5 your dropsuit upgrades (armor and shield upgrades especially)
-Bring a logi (scans are good, reps are great)
-Spec into your hmg proficiency, rapid reload and ammo capacity. 3% per bullet on an hmg, enough said.
-Stack complex plates (especially if you have a rep logi)
-Take out enemies one at a time.
-If you see a rep logi, kill him first. Otherwise focus on the heavy hitters. Reduce the incoming dmg as much as you can.
-Keep in a position that will allow you to use your hmg for its intended purpose, Shredding infantry at close range. Remember, if you fire at someone outside of your effective range, all you've done is alerted them (and their squad) of your location. If you can make your way to a closer position you might be able to jump out on that guy and wreck him in no time.
-Are you noticing a trend on how important a rep logi is?
-Create multiple versions of your suit. I have a sentinel suit that costs 10, 20, 40, 50, 112, and 150k isk respectively. If my team is getting stomped or there are no logi's around I'll use a cheaper suit and save some isk.
-When on the defensive, be patient. Chasing kills and getting greedy will lead to more deaths. Nothing worse than chasing a low life scout out of the range of your reps and being gunned down. If you're defending 'A' then they've gotta come back eventually.
-Fake reload. In a tight battle start a reload when you still have half a clip available. Do so while moving back for cover but make sure the enemy sees you reloading. Once you pass behind cover, cancel that reload and get ready. You'd be suprised how many people will rush in if they think you're vulnerable.
imo, amarr sentinel is the best if you have a rep logi with you. Gal would take the nod for me if not for the logi.
