Simple question: What if it was the assault class--and not the scout class--that offered the best passive scanning precision? Let the assaults be the hunter/killer class that can seek out and find the enemy, while allowing scouts to retain their reduced profile and the benefit of a cloak; the result would be scouts that are effective at hit and run tactics thanks to the cloak (which would enable them to avoid passive detection while the cloak is active) while assaults actively seek out the enemy for confrontation (logis would still be the best active scanners) and harassment, and heavies ideally operate as point defense and not roaming murder squads on wheels. As things currently stand, scouts fulfill both the scanning and avoidance roles for the most part while assaults are basically the meat being fed to the grinder. Assault suits could still receive weapons-based bonuses, but have their precision set to where their default would be able pick up an uncloaked default scout, then have the scanning modules follow pace with the dampeners to ensure that a maxed-out assault (Caldari, likely) could detect a maxed-out scout (Gallente, based on the bonus) that isn't cloaked.

It's an interesting idea, having the assaults working more like scouts, but I'm not sure if it would really work. Even if you buffed the assault's scanning ability and such, they'd still be far slower than scouts. A bit more regen and base health would probably be easier to implement. You don't want them on commando levels, but most of the assault suits don't have all that much health, and aside from the Caldari and Gallente assaults, getting good regen on them requires too much sacrifice when compared to scouts or logi suits. Any buff at this point would be appreciated though.

The problem with assaults is commandos. Why use an Assault's non-lethal weapon bonus, when a commando can deliver more DPS and have more HP to tank?
Get rid of commandos, as they are stupid hybrid suits that shouldn't serve a purpose. Assaults should have the major weapon bonuses. |
