Seriously the whole 'learn from your death' thing is awesome in a way, also both games make you incredibly paranoid.

Dark souls is actually somewhat well designed.

I agree, but CCP only managed to execute halfway.
Whereas Dark Souls is brutal but has high-fidelity core mechanics, Dust is brutal but has awkward and unreliable core mechanics.
As reading through the player reviews on Metacritic revealed - two years ago.

The only common thing they share besides the constant deaths are the horrible lag situations caused server and non server side.

One is a well designed action RPG with death and its ramfications are a thought out game mechanic that is unlike most mainstream games. The other is an unfinished lobby shooter where death is functionally identical to [insert FPS game here], except with possible financial impact.
Oh, and in a decade or two, I could still play Dark Souls. And considering the quality, I might just WANT to.

Yeah, this game is about as much like Dark Souls as Dark Souls is like Final Fantasy, that is it's not. There's nothing hard about this game that basic FPS skills can't counter. Dark Souls only gets easier because you learn to love it. It still kills you when you least expect it and you love it when it does because it wasn't because you were pub-stomped by the curse frogs. |
