I think we need to redefine the role of scouts and assaults.
the focus of scouts should be about stealth. currently its about using cloaks to gain combat advantage. I think part of the issue is that scouts scan range and precision is too high and unnecessary in performing their role as stealth operatives. the scan range and precision is allowing scouts to function as much more effective combat units than assaults.
the solution would be to give all scouts a bonus to dropsuit scan module efficacy only and nerf their scan range and precision.
At the same time, buff base dropsuit scan range and precision for all assaults so they more effectively engage enemy targets.

Scout: a soldier or other person sent out ahead of a main force so as to gather information about the enemy's position, strength, or movements.
Scouts should show enemy positions on the tacnet to their squad. They should not be so combat capable though.
Restrict them to 2 sidearm slots would help matters.

doesnt decreased scan profile and cloaking device provide them with more than enough advantages to achieve this without also spoon feeding them enemy positions also? and most scouts would cry if they lost their shotgun
the problem with current scouts is that they dont have to be sent out ahead of the main force. they sit comfortably cloaked in the middle of the map revealing enemies in + 50m radius lol. they dont do any scouting. theyre effectively mobile active scanners
i did also think of another thing... anyone firing a weapon immediately shows up on tacnet. you figure all these guns would produce enough heat to be spotted by that giant orbiting warbarge's sensors yea? |

Sure, just make the Sniper Rifle, Swarm Launcher, and Shotgun Scout-only sidearms first, and we'll be good. |

I'm not sure that Scouts need a nerf so much that Assaults need a buff. Part of the problem is that right now, Assault suits and Scout suits don't seem to really differ very greatly in how well they can either dish out or tank damage. In that vein, here's a shameless self-plug.

Give all medium suits, and heavy suits that have light weapon slots, medium weapon slots instead of light. Then change all 4 of the racial assault rifles to medium weapons, and allow all light weapons to fit in medium weapon slots. This would fix the problem. |
