There has been a suggestion
Quote:In more secure space it's more like a social space; CONCORD is there, there's no friendly fire - and if you do you'll get squished by the CONCORD foot.
FPS's are not like eve. In eve you cannot get struck by enemies fire unless they lock onto you or it is an area of effect weapon like a smartbomb.
However and this is for non-fps makers like CCP, in an fps, it is very easy to get struck by an enemies weapon. If a sniper shoots at an enemy and he headshots a cloaked player between him and the enemy that means he gets zapped by police? It will be very easy to abuse this also, just by running in front of players firing, getting yourself killed by standing next to something, someone wants to destroy.
In planetside 2 I can kill someone on my side, but in reality it doesn't really accomplish anything accept revenge for deliberate ff incidents etc Most FPS games have ff on for a reason, it is for tactical positioning purposes and a sense of immersion, in short ff makes sense.
If it is a genuine social space, then just take away the players weapons. |

I proposed this system earlier in another thread talking about this very subject of friendly fire. In the case of cloakies like me, as long as I am either a friendly or a neutral and you have set your gun to SAFETY ON, nothing will happen to me. You will have to deliberately set the gun to SAFETY OFF in order to do damage to me at which point the fault will be on you and not on CCP for not being careful how you shoot.

Okay. So there will be no snipers, no place to call in vehicles, no nothing. Why? Because character creation will be even faster on a PC. Why not just have some "fun" and kill your allies?

FF should be allways on, no conditions attached. Safety on makes no sense.
You fire, you hit. Whatever your carelessly aiming at the time.
Penalties, yeah. Make him earn some negative points in whatever system CCP thinks off.
But frankly, I hardly see intentional FF in FPS games. Rarelly.
In an organized team, i highly doubt it will happen on purpose. On a random people match, give the players the power to kick someone. Or make the game autokick the player if the hit a threshold of friendly kills.
Its simple and it works. Red Orchestra has such system and it pretty ok. |

It really is simple in the PC gaming world. FF does less damage but it does do damage.
If I stand there with my character and shell out a whole clip on you- yes it should do damage or kill you. If I throw a grenade yes it should do damage on you. FF is real and should be in a FPS design doc. It makes you a better FPS player with the decisions you make. Yes use of excessive force on your faction or team should be matched with a negative count or a penalty. Even if it is listed in stats for friendly fire that can award an achievement or a badge based on any system they might be thinking of. But the questions remains what is the negative penalty for FF.

Keep in mind we're 20,000+ years into the future. I know we underwent the dark ages when it came to technology, but we recovered vastly in the past 500 years alone. I'm pretty sure arms manufacturers have developed some kind of safety system in place for the guns.

Not really, because it makes no sense.
Theres situations where you might have to shoot a friendly in order to kill the badies, maybe even on pourpose if that means keeping a key position. You wont have time to check if you FoF system is active or not. Such system could cause aldo problems in crowded areas, bringing the effectiveness of your shooting down.
Not to mention that, in a fictional future, such system would be prone to tampering. Imagine if an enemy get hold of your codes or is able to fool your system making you unable to shoot?
Weapons must be simple to function. And so do FPS games. |

Heh, when you guys get in to the Lore it makes sense per technology aka smart bullets\energy, etc. But in game it kind of makes a difference with the game play to make it more precise and interesting. But I have to agree a 100% per lore\tech. But with planetary bombardment, air strikes, grenades, tanks blast- the concussion of an explosion to me should be friendly fire. That is just me though.

+1
To add to this. - Use a sec status system per system like in eve 0.5 and up you deal with concord penalties running FW or public contracts. - In Null sec anything goes, no penalties and no repercussions besides some angry squad mates.
