- What is a game to you, and what makes you pick Game A over Game B?
- What do you typically expect from a game?
- What does the word "Immersion" mean to you and how can you relate it to Dust/Legion?
1.) A game is a means to be entertained or engaged. *obligatory "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED"*
2.) I expect to be entertained and engaged. This happens most often when I feel like what I do, matters. Or in the case of a linear story, that I feel immersed in the particular world/story to progress it and accomplish w/e goal I may have.
3.) When I think of immersion I think of how engrossed I feel in a particular world. I think of Halo. How the AI made me forget at times that i was fighting a computer. How grunts and elite's reacted to me...how fighting hunters on legendary were so exhilarating. So wonderful.
I think of mass effect. how I felt like the story was something I was uniquely creating.
I think of Morrowind. How I might create some weird ass spell and be able to jump across the continent in 5 leaps. Or go and **** up the storyline quest and kill the God of Vivec or w/e (this is all off the top of my head) and still I moved forward. How I would visit a city and the weather would progress...how it felt to experience a day/night cycle.
To feel my controller vibrate as the sun lowered my health as a vampire.
I think of reading stories in the War Room from God's Architect about how goals were set and plans made, and players executing and the record of things like Kadlina and the wars...of the fall of TP, how it felt for me personally.
How can I relate it?
You have to make it feel engrossing. Make it feel like you are operating in a universe called New Eden.
It should be evident from the moment you enter the game that you have stepped into the game...I think of the FF presentation where instead of the load screens we have now it showed your immortal consciousness moving to the clone location...that was immersive.
I want every action to feel like I'm having an effect.
Things like giving public contracts a context, making FW feel like you know the land you are fighting on...to allowing mercs to make the way they look look distinguishing. I want to see a flamboyant merc on the enemy team I know and find him by the crazy colors he sports on his suit.
There's a lot of ways to feel immersion...and the main way I feel immersed on dust is through PC. The fact I can waste hours of my life trolling someone because they lost some matches...because they lost some virtual land...because they affiliate themselves with a particular portion of MH's available planets or districts...that wars have been fought because of mistakes, or insults, through sabotage and subterfuge?
That it can be as unforgiving as anything to the point of 99% being owned by 1 alliance..to as carebear where the expectation is that if you only have one district if it's taken someone will take it back or give you another...it's got more sandbox than anything else I've felt playing dust.
I don't know the extent of what's feasible for dust...but I've proposed things that would make me feel more immersed in dust.
For example I've heard people give pro's/con's to the credibility of improving FW to allow you to choose where you want to fight...as in I pick this district and battle...and it as you can imagine has some problems.
I personally would simply enjoy having FW contracts show up like the event contracts did in chromosome.
it would list all currently progressing battles and list impending battles about to begin to allow you to choose where you were fighting.
I would love to be able to choose what battle I'm fighting in FW.
I humbly ask you support my candidacy for CPM1
