Hey I was looking for a hint of how to use fewer clones for battles... I'm just fine with the killing part but I waste a lot of clones doing so My clones are equipped with a Magsec SMG, Rail rifle, and a locus, the suit is a Caldari assault frame C-1 (I think that's right for medium grade) any tips?

I recommend you join this chat channel ingame: Learning Coalition
You can receive help on fittings and what to skill into.
Anyways one thing I used to do when I first started was after every death I would write down how I died and a solution to avoid dieing from that same cause. Like being sniped in the open, stay close to cover or perform the "D-day Maneuver".
D-Day Maneuver: Move up for three seconds. Stop. Circle strafe once. Rinse and Repeat.
You have a Rail Rifle you should stay at range and pick your targets.
Stay in a squad, avoid heavies and tanks. Hack the CRU before the objective. Check your six when in open areas or hallways/corridors.

With Dust, FPS learning is SOOoo different. As Newbery's we developed a cardinal rule for ourselves, to do the exact thing you are concerned about.... reducing clone life loss. Honestly I don't know if anybody follows this rule anymore, but a year ago it was the only rule that helped us endure this ruthless game.
1) Develop safe movement techniques FIRST. Do it WITHOUT carrying any special dropsuit or any earned/purchased weapons except Militia brand. DO NOT even think of spending cash on a special suit until you can sneak, duck, run beside HAV, hitchike or hack a taxi your way around the map without getting killed more than four times per match. (No, stop laughing--I'm serious. Believe it or not, we Newberrys got killed more times just walking from point A to B, not really from losing a gunfight.) Most vets are good enough that they can walk all around the map, and not get snipered, ambushed, or even drawn into more than 2 shootouts the entire match if she doesn't want to. Practicing ways to do that WELL saves you most of you clone lives. Any SP we earned during this practice went to buy helpful Modules only---absolutely NO cute dropsuits.
2) Only AFTER we'd gotten good at travelling around the map safely while other mercs were getting killed, THEN we pick out a dropsuit. By this time, we've practiced so much, we've found a favorite activity or technique---so we can now tinker up a dropsuit fitting that protects us during THAT activity. This is where things get expensive, but the idea is that we need to have a GOOD protective suit BEFORE we start carrying the expensive weapons. If we don't have the protection first, then the snazzy gun is going to end up laying on the ground next to us, and the person who killed us gets to to take it home with him. That gets humiliating after a while. JEEZ!!
3) Only when we feel we have a decent dropsuit for protection, THEN start farming SP to use in unlocking the cool guns.
In most FPS games, you can go ahead and jump straight for Step #3. In Dust, you'll feel like the game is laughing at you unitl you've really practiced Step #1 first. That MAY be what you're feeling now. It might be the best advice to take off the dropsuit and any pricey weapon you have right now, and dive into Step #1 for a couple of weeks. It's up to you.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

I would suggest monitoring yourself and seeing where your kills are coming from.
Are you running headlong into heavies? Can you figure out a way to flank them? Maybe find spots outside their range to take them out from?
Are you getting taken out by sneaky scouts? Can you remind yourself to check your back and flanks as you run to increase the likelihood of catching them while they flank you?
Even just being more careful with choosing which battles you are in, and how you fight any given opponent will help.
As well as trying to run with as many blues as you can so you aren't the only one taking fire, and can take advantage of suppressing fire and cover will help a lot.

go in balls deep, you will die but them deaths will be the quickest learning curb you will need, afterwords reflect on how you died and what you can do to prevent it next time.
and when you are getting stomped don't switch to sniper you will never get better that way
"uh guys" "i got to go back to the depot that installation made me crap my dropsuit"

If your worried about that you might die when you spawn say, at an uplink near the objective or a cru. Wait for someone to spawn there first if that blue dot disappears it means that location is being camped it may be in your favor to just spawn in your red line.

Have multiple fits. If Magsec and Rail Rifle are your only guns, also have your Basic Medic Suit in your inventory. The Rail/MagSec is for Armor tanking enemies, not very much Shields. Switch to the AR/SMG to combat Shield tanking, then whip out the SMG for Armor

Sometimes matches can be frustrating if you die multiple times and it just seems like your team is nowhere in sight that just might be the case. Instead of immediately spawning back and trying to push the objective stop. Take a look at your screen see what your team is doing unfortunately some times the majority of the other players will be playing red line sniper or just goofing around with no intention of trying to win the match. In a situation like this you have limited options. In this situation you could get a sniper rifle and join them by trying to get a random kill here and there now you get to play snipe/counter snipe if this isn't fun for you just leave the match. Sometimes it's just better to leave a match where your team isn't putting up any effort or your just getting stomped. When you get a bit better with nap awareness and have decent dampening skills you'll have more options in this situation but till then you either go with the flow or leave the match to find a better one. |
