I remember first seeing the cloak abimation in the Dev blog and thinking "wow, so cool"
When it came out, I used it a lot and had a good time with it.
Now, I wish it had never come out. The reason that I loved being a Scout was that I could proudly say that I was dedicated to an uncommon and hard to play class. Now, any joker can be a scout, and dominate, which was not the case pre-cloak era. I like that Scouts got buffed, but it's too easy now.
Any other scout veterans with similar feelings?

Not exactly a vet, but scouting was a lot more exciting pre 1.8. It was hard mode for sure. I was never great, or good, or ok but it felt great to get the drop by skill alone & not using a cloak to easily flank or hide. That was an adrenaline rush.
I am the cool.

Ruined the game. Well, made it worse anyway.
I thought the original idea for a 'cloak field' was to have a placeable piece of equipment that would create the 'field' as a sort of bubble or column that would render clones, vehicles, equipment, and what not, invisible WITHIN A CERTAIN AREA.
If that wasn't the original idea, then right there is a better one.
Giving any and every clown the ability to be invisible anywhere and everywhere is/was a bad idea. That should have been easily foreseen by any true shooter fan with any honor.
You are exactly right. The old scouts had to have an element of skill and tactic to bum rush someone with a shotty while lonewolfing. This new cloaked scout (1/2 of everyone playing) is just using a prostitute tactic.
To where camping is widely considered such a tactic, this personal cloak bs has done nothing but create a new breed of supercampers. It has confirmed what I always knew was an RPG joke. |

I do kinda miss the pre 1.8 scouting. While I've had fun with the cloaks, it's honestly not as enjoyable anymore. Scouts are so common and cloaks are still everywhere. I think I'll have to disagree with the idea of scouting being easier now though, well, at least for Minmatar scouts. I honestly felt like scouting was easier before 1.8 hit. There was very little in the way of true competition for my suit and I could usually see everything with a single precision enhancer. Sure, I was outclassed by Gallente scouts, but there weren't many of those. Scanners weren't really a problem either for me once I got my skills maxed.
Now though, everyone and their mother is using either a Caldari or Gallente scout, or a heavy suit, which all makes my job as a Nova Knifer that much harder. Mostly the scouts though, heavies are still chum in the water for my knives. With cloaks nerfed now though, I'm basically just stuck with a bunch of tanked Caldari and Gallente scouts.
Nova Knives are best sidearm.

They do suck, but how awesome is it to Kill somebody while they think they're completely unseen?
"Better try that **** on somebody with a CRT screen, dumbass dead mother ******."
Admittedly, I do use them. But, only on my Uplink fit, and once my links are down I pretty much try to die. My real Scout is too loaded with Biotics to fit that chump ass crutch module.

Pre 1.8 I used a basic gal scout and would easily get 25+ kills a match if it was a scout friendly map. Since 1.8 I have been using a cal scout and am still getting the same amount of kills.
The difference is now I die a lot less. So from my point of view the cloak is working as intended.
And with alpha hotfix I have noticed a drastic reduction in cloak glitch shotgun scrub scouts. So while the cloak can be used offensively (against noobs that can't see shimmer), it is still much, much better to use it defensively.
Gun control is not about guns...it's about control.
The only way to ensure freedom is by having the means to defend it.

I dislike cloaks. I use them on my Stealth fit, basically hacking everything and no HP mods, but that's it. I miss 1.7. No wallhack cop scout, no Amarr 'scout', no cloaks. At least I know I'm skilled enough to not need it.

I miss when shotgunning actually needed skill, not Cloak + dampening 5 = stack all the armor you feel, be invisible, AND deal 700Hp alpha strikes with a RoF defying logic.
I understand why the Cloak was implemented, as it helped the Scout define its' role.
I also remember when Scrambler Riflers would alpha any scout it found whom was trying to reach an outside point, and instantly kill them. I remember when TacAr Callogis would tank Shotty rounds and counter with 900RoF tacAr shotgunning, killing the scout before its' second shot could be fired.
I just miss when scouts were actual scouts, rather than the faster, more invisible assault we have now.

I feel the exact same. Cloaks took all the risk out of being a scout. A good scout can do well without a cloak. Give these good scouts cloaks and they become unstoppable. I have stopped running the scout as often because I don't want to be associated with the new scrub scouts. In my opinion, I think that the slot layout should be reverted back to before 1.8. One less module slot at all tears and only one equipment slot. With two equipment slots the scout is too versatile. They can afford to always run a cloak. With only one equipment slot they can decide if the cloak is really worth it. |

Any other scout veterans with similar feelings? I felt the same way going into 1.7 from 1.6 with tanks. In 1.6, a missile Gunnlogi was by far not the most powerful, as it was the blaster Maddy that could kill everything on the field with ease, all while under the threat that infantry AV could easily solo anything (which was definitely OP, I've been 2-shotted in my highest EHP fit....). 1.7 came and I was excited about the new mechanics, but then I quickly started hating all the changes, with all the 0 SP tank spam going on and still all the 0 SP glass Sicas that can destroy anything.
But now with hotfix Bravo coming up, and hoping that the railgun changes and damage amp changes remain as they are currently, I'm looking forward to trying tanking again. For now though, I'm only playing on my Amarr assault alt.
