It's a little frustrating when you come up against nigh-invincible triple rep Madrugars but being able to instasplat infantry is hilarious.

Due to the massive range, its become my go-to weapon for a lot of the really open maps. It can take on anything - heavies are prime targets for the instablap, mediums die horribly to it (although this is probably the trickier target), you can kill scouts on splash damage, and you actually have a defence against vehicles.

Exploding someone out the driving seat of an LAV is priceless, as is killing the gunner out of a dropship.

Using the forge is a really empowering feeling - its one of the weapons which actually feels fun to use, IMHO. I've become a huge heavy fan now.

Does anyone else find the forge gun this much fun?

At first it was harder to use for me, but then I constantly racked up 15 plus kills with it. Feels awesome to be a threat to both vehicles and infantry, I just loved charging into a tank with it, especially rail tanks.

And working in pairs, with practically any other kind of AVer, you can kill any vehicles, no matter how much rep they've got. I was hot-dropped on top of an Ion Maddy yesterday with a guy packing Lai Dais.

Needless to say, it went exceedingly poorly for the tank.

It is my favorite weapon. Although it is a bad tactic I love it when its just me and a tank going head to head, and when I win I feel like a badass. Watching people go splat and knowing the WTF feeling the person splatted feels is really funny too. It is also one of the best balanced weapons in the game, powerful but also leaving you vulnerable.

I have zero skill points in FG and I love using my MLT forge. I have a few hundred SP saved up so I think I'm skilling into forge so that I can run FG with my friend and we can REALLY screw up vehicles.

No amount of damage mods or commando bonus can get my Thale's to OHKO a Commando. Basic Forge Gun can take out everything except another Sentinel and the proto can take out every dropsuit.

Yep, I have been digging the FG. Oh, you want to hover above us and shoot me from your DS? No problem, I will spawn in with my FG and give you the same hell you gave us.

The only thing I would like to change (and maybe its just me) that when you hit a DS with the "final blow", instead of the bird of flames falling, how about it just blows it up like the tank? I always seem to get the bird of flames where the pilot has a chance to live.

Which kind of FG you use?

God, yes, and welcome to the club. Back when the HMG had the dispersion of a freaking lazer rifle -- before the hotfix a number of months back -- Forge/SMG was a great alternative to HMG. It takes getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, It's the only way to play the big open maps as a heavy, since HMG is useless on those.

Forging sniping is the freaking best. When I play logi and get sniped, I run for cover. When I play heavy and get sniped, I go looking for the little bastard so I can blap 'em. You do it for long enough, you begin to get a feel for their little hidey-holes and can find them immediately. I think my longest forge shot was something like 206 meters? Fun as hell.

The forge gun is also underestimated as a close-range weapon, and is good in an emergency. The M209 or Ish is powerful, but no match for a Boundless even if you get the drop on the other heavy. If you know he's coming and you got 4 seconds to charge, you can blap the other guy as he's turning the corner. You can play close range, but it's all about foresight and timing, and the right area. Long hallway-like structures are great for forge-gunning at close range, also the bridge map, on the outside lanes everybody likes to take instead of walking down the middle.

And the twofers! Don't EVEN get me started on the twofers! You ever get two kills with one shot? Usually happens when two snipers are kneeling too close together, and you hit one and the splash damage kills the other. Amazeballs. Like freaking Christmas.

The pinnacle of anti-infantry forge-gunning achievements, IMHO, are mid-air kills -- meaning, when the enemy is falling with their inertia dampers on. I got only one, after a couple weeks of seriously trying -- some DS put uplinks up high on the bridge map on their side, and mercs were jumping down from that tall thin tower. I was able to blap one merc about 2/3 of the way down -- perfect timing. He went ragdoll in mid-air and bounced off the ground, my squadmates said. I get teary just thinking about it.

But yeah, I <3 my Kaalakiota.

 Welcome to the club.

Personally I'm mostly about anti-vehicle when using my caldari sentinel so I use the AFG for it's superior DPS. It makes getting infantry kills even sweeter though.

Things get super-fun when a nearby Logi decides to put up a nanohive near a position you're trying to defend. Then you can really open up and let it hail forgegun rounds.
If you're a logi and you read this: Drop more nanohives near forgegun heavies. It's really appreciated.

Now I just use it on installations to prevent HAVs from getting their grubby little fingers on em, and steal supply depot last shots from said HAVs.

Though I'll still pull em out on open maps to blap those silly snipers and lone traveling wolves. Sprinting will not help you escape my water balloons when you have 150 more meters to get to cover!
