Hello all, Hydro here. I just wanted to get a little advice or at least, know that there is someone else out there that can understand where I'm coming from. Here goes;
I jumped onto DUST 514 for the first time last night and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I managed to get involved with a small squad, and fought against several groups of players who provided an exhilarating and intense experience. We had close losses, close victories, and a very sad disconnection (the cat decided it would be a fun idea to play around with the super hub).
This morning however was a completely different story. It was like I suddenly jumped into a tank full of Great Whites, ha.
The first game resulted in a loss for the team, and a very sharp drop in my K/D score. 'Okay', I thought. 'K/D isn't everything. Let's try again'. Several more battles ensued, all ending with the same result.
Now I understand, having earned a certain amount of war points, I'm no longer able to fight at the academy however, the jump from being classed as a 'beginner' to being 'good enough' to throw down with all the pros of this game just isn't thorough enough. I mean, within a blink of an eye, I've gone from intense slug fests with guys (and possibly girls) who have just as much chance of taking my clones life (vice/versa) to fighting goliaths armed to the teeth with weapons and modules I have no chance of obtaining unless I put up with getting my *** kicked every day until I gain enough SP to match these opponents (which I have no interest in doing).
I guess my point is, there needs to be some sort of tiered system where say, beginners ranging between 500,000 and 750,000 SP can only fight each other. The next stage = 750,000 and 1,500,000 etc.
Whether something like this is implemented in the future or not, I could still use some tips to help give me the incentive to continue playing.
Thank you for reading, Hydro. |

It use to be worse before, but now with the announcement of EVE Legion, we got rid of most of the try hards. Now you got people who play for fun(me), or people who are burning their proto or officer assets(the guys you played against). Right now the matches are pretty fun, except for the rare protostomp. I understand you are new, so you should make an extra character to try out the weapons first. You also want to work on your Dropsuit Upgrades. I recommend you join this chat channel in game: Learning Coalition
If you have questions, feel free to ask there. Also join one of these two corps: DUST University or Immortal Guides

You poor soul.
The jump from the Academy to normal matches is vicious. Evenly matched rounds are a rarity in the pubs - far too often there are squads of people with top tier gear on one team but not on the other, and it just becomes a slaughter. I completely agree that there should be more matchmaking.
The best way you can adapt is by finding a full squad to run about with. The game is a lot more fun when you have people to chat to, and you'll learn a LOT faster with people to cover you rather than you just ending up dying endlessly.
There are several channels you can turn to for assistance - I recommend joining 'Learning Coalition'. You can get there by pressing start, scrolling down to the '+' icon, and pushing that. Enter the name and it'll take you to a chat channel. You can ask for help there.
There are also several corps that'll take you in. DUST University and Immortal Guides are good examples of newbie centred groups, but I recommend trying to find a group that you really get along with rather than just a 'newbie corp'.
If I see you in the Learning Coalition channel I'd be happy to squad up with you and help you out a bit.
Matchmaking is a sad thing for newbies. I wish you luck.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

i do agree.. the newbie battle acadamy needs to hold the newberrys till they are at like 600k SP currently you can only get like 2 rounds in befor its the shark tank.
then after the 600k mark maybe "Battle University" till 1M SP.. and THEN you kicked out into the shark tank

Unfortuantely the size of the player base makes it difficult to enforce segregation of new and vet players. And yes, it sucks massively.
Try these for some advice on surviving the 'new player experience', and there's a heap more guides in the link in my signature.
