I'm realizing that the more I play, the more natural this becomes. One especially important thing is the contrast of the shimmer in different lighting scenarios.
It's harder to see on lighter/brighter backgrounds like brown/beige/tan rocky layers, inside of shadows, indoors, against grey exteriors, underneath overhangs, etc, it becomes MUCH easier to spot this. Knowing what terrains and horizons will contrast cloaks well then starts to make you realize when you need to be watching more for them.
When you know that there are cloaks around it starts to become important to do things like minimize your time with your back to open areas, know where scouts would likely approach from, force pathways through bottlenecks, etc.
Also, scanning scouts are smart and know when you've spotted them. It always a clever thing to not stare directly toward them when they are in pursuit mode to give off that they are spotted unless you are ready to kill them. Tossing a grenade and a opening up fire will help your chances.
Also, I wonder if it would be possible to give bonus points to killing cloaked players. |

Yup I see most of the cloaked scouts but in some areas its pretty difficult lowering the ingame brightness helped a lot though.
Funny enough I find it by now easier to see cloaked scout far away than the ones close to me . But I would say I spot roughly 70 to 80 percent of the scouts in my field of view (without scanning them). Weather I can react properly or not is indeed another story |

That would be easy bonus points.
The times I miss the scouts, though, are the times it matters; the ones where I'm otherwise occupied and the cloak gives him just enough invisibility to get around me.

Cloaks almost seem counterproductive unless you really get them down.
I noticed that at range, the cloaking animation can draw attention to a scout you normally wouldn't have noticed. It's an extremely obvious flash and glimmer.
Due to that, I only cloak when I'm beyond the crest of a hill, behind a wall, or inside a building.

the best thing to do as a non-cloker is stop and survey the land for a brief second. i run a cloaked scout and i still do this. i hug a wall or something that i can duck behind and i will stop as i run and look for that shimmer. what you have to understand is that scouts only have so much time with the cloak to be active that they have to sprint across the land and if you stop and watch for this, you can see them. in CQC it can a bit tricky, especially when they run into you as you run, but that just comes down to luck and your reaction time. another thing to keep in mind is that a scout lives off the radar. i can see almost everyone on their except other dampened scouts. i will watch the radar and wait for the right moment to strike. if your a heavy or logi, the best thing you can do is constantly turn, back and fourth. if i see this on the radar, its going to be difficult for me to get in there and catch you off guard. logis, when your healing a heavy in your team, don't look at the same direction that they are facing. the triage tool will keep a lock on the heavy even if you have your back to them. you watch the backside and they cover the front. much better chance to catch us invisible people.

If you run Cloak, prepare to die. No one comes out alive when Im a match.
If you run proto gear, prepare to suffer the consequences. You've been warned.

I'm getting there but on my low def TV its pretty hard to see the shimmer unless they are close but then it doesn't matter anyway. Though I'm much better at seeing it than when it first came out yes |

Yea, for a while now. Most of the people who said that didn't bother looking.
I know I've said this before but when I saw I cloaked scout, it reminded me of seeing dark matter. When dark matter passes by an object, the viewer would begin to see distortion's to the object's shape that its passing.
So I really don't know how people weren't seeing it, unless they were on SD televisions. Anything that didn't look normal should catch your attention. You know the rock formation wasn't looking like that before
LOL @ the MinSen today who stood in front of me while I was cloaked and still, looking back and forth, wondering why his reticule was red. He did not shoot, and he kept looking left and right for two minutes.

Its really easy to see them now, If you suspect a cloaked scout is in the area, just look at the environment, if even just a little bit looks even a tiny bit distorted shoot it, ask questions later. Its fairly easy if you can't do it this late in the game you have no adaptability, only problem is when they come from the sides or the back(My blind spots), and if they do, don't blame the cloak, you wouldn't have seen them anyway. |

Before Alpha, i was starting to get REALLY paranoid:
My minja(lv4) has problems fitting a compact/needle combo with decent modules, let alone a flippin cloak.
So naturally, i was preyed upon by every other scout in-game, and wuickly developed this irrational fear of Cloaks/squigglies in my eye(yeah those)
Now? It's all kinda Meh. Still easy to see, yes, freaking out IRL and twitching my right index finger whenever a squiggly or ghostly figure comes into view? Nah..
