Project Legion: Match Creation Logic Map https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1RS-BGbH0RXPVPBx034j4GAInnoW8a8cBfjL5XnO2eiU/edit?usp=sharing
The proposal that I set forth is based on the premise that the Eve-Legion link needs to be reinforced early on in Legion's development even during beta testing via Planetary Interaction (PI). For those of you who have no clue what Planetary Interaction really is, I suggest you watch the YouTube video to understand it first.
PI is a great way to generate matches from for a multitude of reasons.
1. PI colonies are literally everywhere now that Eve Capsuleers have been establishing them for years and making them as efficient as possible. 2. PI is the primary source of materials needed for the manufacturing of Control Towers. About at least 90% of the materials needed for creating the Control Towers only come from planets. 3. PI was originally intended to be the link between Eve and Dust (not anymore in Dust's case of course). Hopefully this can finally be realized in Legion instead. 4. Colonies established by players already exist in literally EVERY planet type ranging from Temperate to Lava and from Barren to Oceanic and Gas planets. 5. Most colonies will likely be located in strategic parts of each region by the players due to the demand of the resources needed.
Rogue Drones also play a role in this proposal as they can be used in hindering production until either the Legionaries clear them out or until the drones get bored and eventually move on. Keep in mind that this is NOT covering matchmaking as that is a different topic altogether.
What do you think?

My question is how do the mercs get their stuff there, and why does it have to be rouge drones.

Presumably the merc gear is either shipped with the mercs or 'kept on premises' (i.e. handwaved in the interests of being able to sit down for twenty minutes and have a match), and I imagine the drones could be any colour.

Only as long as our payments for the contracts are drawn from the out put of the PI and not just appearing magically out of thin air.... but how many mercs want to work for Tritanium......

The transport of our crap is not part of the subject here and the drones are just one of many mediums in which Eve-Legion interaction could be achieved. So it doesn't necessarily have to be only rogue drones. NPC pirates can be another medium such as Mordu's Legion, Blood Raiders, Serpentis, Dread Guristas, and Angel Cartel. If a Sansha Nation Incursion were to happen within the constellation of that colony, then all colonies within that constellation could come under threat of NPC Nation rats. Again, it doesn't have to be strictly drones. That was just an example.
What this is about is how matches could be created that help players on both sides get a sense of being linked to each other.
As for payouts, since Eve Capsuleers are the ones that get to choose whether or not to create a contract, they can provide the payout and thus dictate how much they are willing to pay. This also means Eve players would have to be careful on how much they are willing to pay per contract. Price it too low and no one will accept the contract. Price it too high and eventually you start hurting your profit margins.
This could be focused mainly on defense contracts against NPCs at first. This could later then be adapted to create attack contracts against other colony owners if Capsuleer A has a personal vendetta against Capsuleer B and likes to put out an attack contract for any Legionaries who have a taste for cash.

There really needs to be more interaction between Legion and EVE than there has been between DUST and EVE.
Integrating the marketplaces and generating a player-run economy is, in my view, one of the most important things that can be done, but that is going to be a really tricky long term issue. In the short term, capsuleer issued contracts for battles in and around EVE colonies sounds like it could be a lot of fun, particularly if EVE players are properly incentivized to issue them. Perhaps there can be increased computing or power resources available for capture, or efficiency gains to be had by eliminating NPC interference? It also goes without saying that this could spur additional participation EVE-side in orbital bombardments - targets are really hard for capsuleers to find, so most faction warfare players don't bother to make the effort.
edit: it would also be interesting if an EVE capsuleer could straight up capture another player's command center, thereby doubling production. |
