Assaults get the dmg bonus per lvl, like the commando, but it applies to all weapons. Then, we mirror the assault suit slot layout, to that of the logi. (Example, gall assault would have 5 lows, 3 highs, just as the gall logi will have, but on top of that, the assault would have buffed damage as well)
This isn't saying that we're taking the bonus/slot completely away from another suit....it's just mirroring key attributes that slayers would find interesting.. More hp...more dmg...more speed.

Wouldn't even make any sense.
In EVE, certain ships give different bonus's to different turrets even if they are in the same class (Frigate, Destroyer, Cruiser etc.). Best example I could think of is the bonuses for the Rupture and a Stabber. Both are Minmatar, which specs well off of projectile weapons and shields (sometimes armour), however the Rupture bonus is 5% bonus to rate of fire and damage (per level) where as the Stabber does 5% to rate of fire and 10% to turret fall of range (talking in terms of Projectile Turrets).
This is just one of the many examples from EVE, but in short, racial weapons spec well with racial suits and makes more sense.

I know, that's why i posted the alternative part about leaving the weapons with a racial bonus'. Something other than *laugh*dispersion and reload.

I just throw options out on the table. Could really care less how they're overall tweaked/ implemented, it's the theory of how they should work that's important. Brainstorming ftw.
If slayers like tanking hp and dps, then take the ideology from their previous trends, and mold it into something useful.
Take the gall logi for example, it was the slayers choice, because of the ability to stack all that hp, and be able to stack dmg mods, and slow self reps. Oh...wait....that sounds like the gall scout, except minus 1 high/low slot.
Not all assault suits can stack the dmg mods+hp, hence where the base damage bonus to light weapon/sidearm usage comes into play. This gives them an increased edge over their hp tanked logi counters who could potentially out gun fight them with their rep hives.
The extra hp slot(example: armor slot for gall, shield slot for cal) , gives them an advantage over the scouts.

Another Assault buff thread? Might as well put my nooby 2 cents worth in it.
From what I see, the problem with assaults has nothing to do with increasing survivability or damage. The problem is the suits themselves are just crap when compared to anything else.
-Scouts have better CPU/PG (god knows why) with more speed, a 2nd Equipment slot, but less hp than assaults. They also have a better passive scan/range (caldari), dampening (gallente), and the other 2. -Sentinels have more HP (obviously they should) with no equipment, yet better shield regulation than the assaults. My Cal Sentinel has 4s normal, 1s depleted (meaning immediately I start recovering from a flux) while my Cal Assault has 5s normal, 6s depleted (some serious wtf going on there). -Logis have no sidearm (save for 1), but they get about the same hp with 3-4 equipment slots. -Commandos have the ability to carry 2 Lights, but no grenades and varying degrees of hp with fewer slots than assaults. Add in the racial weapons damage bonuses and they're decently better than assaults.
Seeing all that, why would anyone in their right mind WANT to play an assault all the time?
From seeing what assaults could be, I came up with my own 2 cents worth of assault changes.
-Give them higher CPU/PG. Don't nerf the scout's CPU/PG, just give assaults more. -Get rid of the assault class CPU/PG fitting op on light/sidearm weapons. By increasing CPU/PG, it won't be necessary to keep that bonus. -Give assault frames an increased ammo output after dropping the CPU/PG op. 5% increase in ammo stock per level. Not to clip size, overall ammo. Even though it only amounts to about an extra clip at proto assaults, combined with ammo skills for each weapon, it really makes assaults stand out. They won't need to visit supply depots as often, keeping them on the frontlines longer. -And finally, switch the sentinel/assault shield regulation. Or at least buff the assault's shield regulation. That way you don't need to hide behind a corner for 10+ seconds every time you lose your shields.
Another side idea, make shield regulators high slot modules. Shield extensions and recharges are already high slot, and I can bet the server data shows that regulators are almost never used (I'm not giving up 120 or so armor for a marginally increased regulation time).
Just my 2 cents. Pick it apart where you will.

well I think they were going to buff the cpu/pg of assaults, but couldn't get it in for 1.8 or hotfix alpha.

Keep in mind two of them are actually GOOD right now.
Minmatar need not be explained. Combat rifle clip size bonus. Fastest medium suit.
i think Amarr is viable because i've heard it has about the same damage potential as commando because of heat buildup bonus. would like to see the numbers on this
yeah caldari is kind of a joke unless you like using rail rifles and sniper rifles. even then calmando's a better option
no one uses Gal Assault.
My thoughts on Hotfix Alpha: First I noticed a scout running from my AR. Then a heavy. Then a COMBAT RIFLE USER. CCP +1
