I realize fighting on planets is probrably already a forgone conclusion but I wanted to discuss the idea of Legion prehaps not focusing on planets to begin with. To me, and possibly to others as well what was supposed to make Dust/Legion so special is the connection to Eve. With that said Planets should be connected to Planetary interaction in Eve. Jumping in to that deep of a connection off the bat would be difficult. So what seems to be needed is a good stand alone enviornment that can be connected if and when needed. While we are at it we also need an enviornment which can be turned into a free roam salvage enviornment.
So what about all the derilect stations and wrecks I see so much as a capsuleer? These would be an ideal enviornment, consider the fact most of these wrecks where probrably mass produced so uniformity in the "maps" is to be expected. This could allow you to focus on a smaller area and work your way out from there. They can be scaled in size to allow for smaller games to larger games. It would allow Legion something seperate from Dust to begin with and when planetary enviornments are ready they can be introduced. Space enviornments would also lend themselves well to the often desired Titan boarding or Station captureing.
Now I am not a graphic artist but it would also seem these enviornments would be easier to create as well.
Thoughts?

You mean like this?

They prototyped exploration gameplay for "Walking in Stations" in Eve (Should be a video of it somewhere on youtube. They showed it at a Russian fan gathering) but dropped it along with WiS, at least for the time being. Putting it in Legion would be perfect. |

I think that battles and salvage areas on planets is an almost forgone conclusion, as they already have the maps built for DUST. (The maps we have in DUST are far bigger than the area we use.)
However, your arguments are very solid, and I see no reason why they could not develop some station based maps to add to the mix. You would not have an MCC in a station based map, and no orbital strike, but otherwise I donGÇÖt see any problems. You could have the terminals in Skirmish work on gaining control of the station rather than blowing up a MCC.

I am quite aware that rendering anything in 3d and making it a playable enviornment is not easy, I was speaking relatively. As in compared to createing a planetary enviornment. Which it may not be, as I said I am not a graphic artist.
