My focus for getting on the CPM I'm primarily focused on enabling "content creators". I want to work with CCP to empower people that create out of game tools & utilities, which help everyone get more out of Dust. From the Merc that wants to play with fittings on an iPad, to the CEO that wants to theory craft a PC team.
- More CREST API endpoints,
- More ways for people to create 3rd party tools
- More ways for corps & players to self-organise and share.
One of the reasons why EVE is so successful, is due to the out of game tools people were able to create e.g. skill planners (EVEMON), fitting tools (EFT), fitting sharing (Battleclinic), efficiency analysis (killboards), etc. All of which are enabled by the EVE API. I want Dust to have this same rich ecosystem of apps.
That's great Xp3ll3d, but can you make a difference? Yes, it is far more likely that my pushing for additional access to data & APIs would have more long term effect on Dust than other changes. If we expect that future Dust client updates will be limited and narrow in scope, then backend changes are where we can expect to get the bulk of Dev time. There are compounding effects here, CCP can spark an entire community of creation with relatively small development effort.
Why vote for me? Mainly for a diversity of opinions on the CPM. There will be multiple CPM candidates pushing for in game fixes (gun tweaks, PC changes, etc.). I plan on being a voice for the parts of the game where you're not in a match or sitting in front of your PS3. I want to be laser focused on this aspect so that each member of the CPM can specialise in what they do best (e.g. FW changes).
While you may have another CPM candidate in mind for your 1st vote preference, the STV system allows you to list multiple candidates you would like to support. Listing me in addition to your primary preference can help ensure that I'll be able to add more ways for us all to interact and get more out of Dust.
Experience I created http://DustTimers.com to give people access to PC battle times on their mobile phones. I work full time as a Senior software consultant and "cloud architect", creating APIs & mobile apps for customers. I train people in the technical community around the world on how to create REST APIs, websites, mobile apps, desktop apps, etc. Because I actively work in this field I realistically know what can and can't be done. I'll be can speak technically and directly to the CCP developers and request what we need to create awesome tools!
Do you need to be on the CPM to do this? Couldn't you just advise? I thought hard about my reasons for running for CPM. In the end I realised that I need to be on the CPM to be fully effective. I need to sign the NDAs to be able to get full information on what data exists behind the scenes. To find out the current status of existing unpublished APIs (like the CREST endpoints for the cancelled Vita app). Acting as an outside "advisor" would not be effective as I wouldn't know what exists and are candidates for "easy wins".

FAQ
If you could add features to the API right now, what would you request? A logical progression of realistic features I would ask for:
- A roll out of SSO for Dust (allows players to log in as their character onto other sites)
- SSO would allow for authenticated calls, meaning we could request access to private information (trained skills, assets, dropsuit fittings, etc)
- Allow simple data to be pushed back to the server (Create a dropsuit fitting on your iPad and see it appear in Dust).
- Allow market purchases (dropsuit restocking)
A lot of these APIs should already exist from the work CCP did on the Sony Vita app. I want to push them to get the APIs completed and pushed out for public use.
If you could add a single crazy feature, what would you request? I'd request a API that would allow us to send an item to another player. To allow us to create our own player trading system. It looks like we can't expect any form of in game "player market" in Dust (due to it requiring client update, UI, artwork, etc.). Once we have SSO and authenticated calls, I'd request an API endpoint that would allow us to give items to another player. If we could get CCP to add this, we could create our own out of game app for trading items. Swap those Balacs with someone else's Gastuns.
Examples of what can be done with the existing API TheMittani news site showcased a few websites that use the current Dust API http://themittani.com/features/dust-and-eve-orbital-bombardment-time. One of the listed sites is mine (http://DustTimers.com/) I created it to provide an out of game way to see when your next PC battle is, as well as localise it from UTC to your local time zone.
There are sites that let you create dropsuit fittings from the static data export (e.g. http://www.protofits.com/fittings). In the future with an expanded Dust API we would be able to import our character's trained skills to more accurately create a fit. You'd be able to test what would happened if you trained a few skills up to level 5, and then use the information to help map out a skill training plan.
How long have you played EVE/DUST I've played Dust consistently since the closed beta invites. I've managed to regularly log in and fight each week, so I'm up to 42M SP. I generally play support roles (repping Minmatar logi) so my K/D suffers for it. My EVE main has 70M SP.
What gaming platforms do you play on / own? Everything! I'm a gamer at heart. 3x widescreen gaming PC setup. (EVE in ultra wide screen). PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, OUYA, etc. etc.
Why didn't you post your CPM candidacy post until now? I was taking advantage of the "Accelerated SP week" and was capping out ;-) |

Yep. It is "Expelled" in 1337 speak.

RAIDER 04 wrote:I'll say it... Do you think that your running may negatively effect or be negatively effected by The Black Jackal's Campaign? I say this because you likely will share a similar voter base which may cause a split in the vote of players in your timezone I would be disappointed if everyone was voting for a candidate just because they're the same nationality (i.e. Aussies blindly voting for us, Americans voting for Americans, etc), and not because they supported their CPM platform.
Jackal & I are sute to be "dipping into the same pool of voters" as we both personally know a lot of people in the AUTZ, but as I see it:- STV vote allows people to vote for the both of us, without thinking they will *hurt* one of us.
- As Jackal mentioned, we are 2 candidates standing for on different platforms

I do have some questions if you have the time!
CEOPyrex CloneA wrote:1 - I read from the OP that your focus is going to be the out of game experience for this IP - given Dust 514 is now in an unknown commercial line - what do you feel can be done with 3rd party apps for Dust 514? or is your focus now more on Legion and what apps could be created for them? Wonderful way of phrasing that, "Dust 514 is now in an unknown commercial line". As I mentioned, I see there being limited opportunity to ask CCP for drastic client side content changes. 3rd party apps are a great opportunity to provide extra longevity to Dust. If we can encourage players to continue interacting with Dust while away from their consoles, we can keep Dust front of mind and encourage them to continue logging in (keeping the numbers from atrophying). This could be done through Suit tinkering, theory crafting, or through more organisation tools (such as helping organise PC matches, seeing dashboards of current FW ownership, etc).
My focus here is on Dust 514 and the current situation, that is what this CPM election is about. But this does have a future impact on Legion. CCP is using Dust as a test bed for ideas & game balance for Legion. They can also use it as a test bed for 3rd party interactivity. They can expose API endpoints, and take feedback for the next version they'd release for Legion.
CEOPyrex CloneA wrote:2 - Your statement about the STV voting line concerned me a bit, i think if anything you have a stronger campaign than most people already - you clearly state you are not there for a power bloc and there to buff a gun or play style, your focus (laser focus) is the out of game experience, i think this should be a primary reason for many of the Dust community to vote directly for you. It troubles me that candidates feel they could get into office by being the best 2nd place, you certainly dont fit that bill and i didnt like to see your self deprecation there. Do you feel your campaign is any less worthy than others? (please say no)
I spent a while penning that part of the OP. I don't think my campaign is less worthy, in fact I think that my platform is something that will drastically improve the longevity & reach of Dust, more than any other change we can make to the game (5% buff/nerfs only go so far). However I had to accept a few realities of the elections:- I'm not as "famous" as the other candidates / I don't have a powerbloc behind me. Making it difficult securing those #1 votes.
- Dust514 is first and foremost a console FPS. Most voters will initially be looking for candidates that are pushing the "gun game".
- A lack of awareness that it is even possible to create 3rd party apps that could connect to Dust.
Many voters will already have favourites/celebrities they have placed first in their minds, trying to convince them to put anyone else as #1 is a losing battle. However what I can do is make them aware that STV allows them to place a 2nd preference, and that if they like my ideas of extending Dust beoynd the console, then they are able to support me without "hurting" their 1st preference.
In no way do I think my ideas & suggestions are less than the other candidates, far from it. And I am hoping that a significant portion of the Dust players realise the potential of 3rd party extensibility and put me as their 1st preference. I'm just trying to accept the situation that I'll be hard pressed for #1, and I'm trying to compensate however I can.

The latest Developer Blog post from CCP about updates to the EVE API is promising. http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/industry-3rd-party-developers/
Now lets see if we can push for the same kind of additions to the Dust API so that we can build our own tools.
